Foundation Learning Works Pathway: Pathway 2 Employment Stage 2

Looking to work? The FL Works Pathway develops and prepares you for employment Interested in work? FL Works has a very clear focus to prepare you for employment. You may study this pathway in 2 stages. Pathway to Employment Stage 1 and Pathway to Employment Stage 2 (Supported Internship). Pathway to Employment Stage 2 (Supported Internship): Following on from the Pathway to Employment Stage 1 course, if you have a genuine desire to get a job and you can demonstrate an excellent record of behaviour and attendance, then this course is ideal for you. This Pathway is offered at different campuses. The work experiences and industry placements on offer are specific to the campus you choose to study at, where you will benefit from being taught be a range of highly-skilled professionals. Our vision is to support you to be INDEPENDENT, CONFIDENT AND RESILIENT so that you are well-prepared to engage with the wider community. The Pathway 2 Employment course and experiences within it, will most certainly help you to develop in these areas, working towards your chosen aspiration and progression

Diploma in Equine Management

Level 3 • Full-time • Bicton College


If you already have experience with horses as well as the passion & determination to turn it into a career then this is the course for you. It will help you to take your existing skills to a professional sphere & prepare you to work in the equine industry or progress to higher education. You will have lectures in a range of subjects from Nutrition to Fitness, as well as practical lessons. Our top class facilities include stabling for 24 horses, horse walker, solarium, and covered practical area, 20m x 60m indoor arena with viewing gallery and 30m x 60m outdoor arena. We provide a range of horses to suit all abilities including cobs, thoroughbreds, young horses and competition horses. You’ll be able to ride a range of horses at college that are suited to develop your individual skills. Level 3 students organise and run shows in a range of disciplines and also have the chance to compete in them on our college horses. We are also a BHS exam centre so can support you in taking these additional qualifications. When on yard duties you will be undertaking normal horse care tasks such as feeding, mucking out, grooming and also clipping throughout the winter. As part of the duty team you will also have the opportunity to learn supervisory skills, getting you ready for a career with horses. We often have competitions at weekends in our Equestrian Centre so you will also have the opportunity to get involved with these. You could learn to be a steward, work with a course builder or write for a dressage judge. You’ll be learning from experienced and well qualified staff, who are there to ensure you reach your full potential.

City & Guilds Practical Horticulture skills – Grow Your Own (Dartington)

Level 1 • Part-time • Dartington College


This Level 1 course will take place at School Farm, on the beautiful Dartington estate near Totnes, Devon. It is a great introduction for those who want to grow on any scale, whether it is a small patio garden, an allotment or on a larger piece of land. The School Farm site hosts a range of enterprises from vegetable growers to therapeutic horticulture and the course will be delivered by experienced growers and teachers from the enterprises. This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in or some experience of gardening or plant knowledge, and can be enjoyed by enthusiastic beginners and more experienced gardeners alike. Students can expect 1 day a week of practical learning on the land in different seasons and weather conditions.

Safe Use Of Pesticides PA1 & PA2

Professional Qualification • Part-time • Bicton College


Please note – Full payment for this course must be made at least two weeks before enrolment. This course will enhance understanding, and enable successful students to legally spray their own land, or that of their employer, using Boom Mounted Sprayers. The first day will consist of the PA1 theory training, with an online test in the afternoon. This covers the storage, handling and application of pesticides. The second day is the PA2 Boom Mounted Sprayer training; with an allocated timeslot on the third day to take the PA2 assessment. The qualification to be gained is a Level 2 City & Guilds lifetime-qualification. The following PPE will be needed for the training. Clean wellington boots (for the PA2) Clean coverall spray suit (for the PA2) Nitrile gloves (for the PA2) Face Shield (for the PA2)
