The Cornwall College Group – Higher Education Strategy & Public Information
At the Cornwall College Group we aim to work with the public, Higher Education applicants, our learners, employers, staff and other stakeholders to provide as much information as possible.
This helps us:
- Widen the understanding of Higher Education and its value to individuals, the community and to the regional and national economy
- Work with learners on higher education courses to develop their universal, specialist and personal skills.
- Work with all our stakeholders in networks of expertise clustered around employment sectors in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and the south-west region.
- Provide information advice and guidance to the public about what Higher Education entails, the opportunities we have within our Group and the range of college sites where study is possible.
- Ensure our learners progress into employment or higher education, develop career opportunities and gain the entrepreneurial thought and action to succeed beyond higher education.
- Confirm the achievements of students on the completion of their studies.
- Safeguard academic standards and assure and enhance academic quality

The Cornwall College Group Supports Higher Education Study
The Cornwall College Group is a network of Colleges within the south west that supports learners, their families, communities, employers and our staff and students. How we do this is explained in our strategic intent and higher education strategy, listed at the bottom of this page.
Quality of Higher Education Provision
In 2012 the Cornwall College group was reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) as part of the Integrated Quality and Enhancement Review (IQER) process. This process, is how the QAA ensures that the quality of higher education delivered in Further Education Colleges meets the standard required for the awards we offer. Since 2012, higher education in Further Education Colleges is reviewed in the same way as all universities and providers of higher education, through the Higher Education Review (HER).
The review, in March 2012, judged that there can be confidence in the College’s management of its responsibilities, as set out in its partnership agreements, for the standards of the awards it offers on behalf of its awarding bodies, confidence in the College’s management of its responsibilities, as set out in its partnership agreements, for the quality of learning opportunities it offers, and that reliance can be placed on the accuracy and completeness of the information that the College is responsible for publishing about itself and the programmes it delivers. Studying Higher Education with The Cornwall College Group
Each course has its own Course Handbook which is accessible from the individual course pages on our website. Each student has access to the Student and College University Handbook and the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Handbook for their programme following enrolment
Cornwall College Students’ Union
The Cornwall College Group has its own Students’ Union and works with the Students’ Union at Plymouth University (UPSU) to support our learners. We recognise that the student voice should inform the Group about how to best improve the student experience during their studies and for the future. We work with the president of the student union in developing Higher Education quality and with student representatives supporting and resolving issues that might arise. Our new Higher Education Vice-chairs on every college site will be involved in discussions around course development. Working with the NUS as part of the student engagement partnership (tsep) we have developed an action plan to drive forward student enhancement and engagement.
Most of our Higher Education qualifications are awarded by, and validated by Plymouth University, whose vision: To be the enterprise university and mission: Advancing knowledge and transforming lives through education and research.
