This course is perfect if you are a complete beginner or have limited welding knowledge. Ideal if you want to learn a new skill, if you are creative, if you want to repair your own car or even a garden gate.


On this course you will learn a basic understanding of the different Welding processes used in industry and at home. Gaining a basic understanding of Manual Metal ARC welding (stick) and Metal Arc Gas Shielded (MIG), covering Flat and H/V single weld beads, re-joining of runs, welding outside corner joints, Butt welds and horizontal/vertical fillet welds on 3-6mm thick plate. The MIG/Mags welding section will cover the setting-up of the machine (gas, volts and wire speed etc) for correct operation to deposit welds in the horizontal/vertical and Flat welding positions, material thickness 1-6mm.

You will require fire resistant overalls and steel toe capped boots/shoes for this course. Also due to Health and Safety guidelines we would recommend that you wear glasses instead of contact lenses if you require them.

This course runs on a Wednesday evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm for 8 weeks.

This course is suitable for all plumbers and engineers involved in the installation, commissioning, service and repair of hot water systems, solar thermal hot water systems or air source/ground source heat pumps. Tungsten Inert Gas Welding Skills – Introduction

Introductory wedling skills, in either MAGS/MIG,MMA or TIG. This qualification will teach you the fundemental underpinning knowledge, relevant to your chosen welding process including, saftey, use of equipment and choice of consumables. You will learn how to set the welding parameters and electrical conditions, relevant to the welding process required and material to be joined. Furthermore you will develop the practical skills required to safely produce five practical welding tests in the flat and horizontal/vertical positions.

This course is suitable for all plumbers and engineers involved in the installation, commissioning, service and repair of hot water systems, solar thermal hot water systems or air source/ground source heat pumps. You will be provided with a comprehensive learning package to understand the requirements of Water Regulations and its effects on water supply organisations and individuals. Topics covered will include: Water Regulations 1999 Pipework and fittings Tightness testing Cleansing and flushing of water systems Commissioning Maintenance and repair Water Regulations prevent misuse, waste, undue consumption or erroneous measurement of water and, most importantly, to prevent contamination of drinking water.
