Vocational Academy Works Pathway: Work-related Studies Foundation Learning

Foundation learning students gaining practical skills and experience Interested in work? FL Works has a very clear focus to prepare you for employment. You may study this pathway in two stages. Pathway to Employment Stage 1 (getting work ready) and Pathway to Employment Stage 2 (Supported Internship).

Work Related Studies Level 1: If you are not quite ready to enter the world of work, but would like to develop your employability skills this course is ideal. You will learn core employability skills through activities that develop your communication and teamwork.

The course involves three days in college; one of which will be an internal work placement, and two days in the classroom.

Our vision is to support you to be INDEPENDENT, CONFIDENT AND RESILIENT so that you are well-prepared to engage with the wider community. The Pathway 2 Employment course and experiences within it, will most certainly help you to develop in these areas, working towards your chosen aspiration.

What you will learn

You will learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours to prepare you for the world of work. During these steps to becoming work ready you will set personal targets to ensure you reach the goals you need to enter the next stage in your career.

You will get the opportunity to visit local employers and also follow a career plan to match your skills and interests with different jobs and careers and work with the P2E co-ordinator to find the right work placement for your supported internship at stage 2, if you chose this progression pathway.

Work Experience opportunities will range from placements including our onsite Shop and Coffee Shop, to placements within other college departments or external local businesses.

Entry requirements

You will be working at Entry 3 / Level 1 within the areas of English & maths and have an interest in entering employment.

Work experience

You will work with the P2E co-ordinator to find an internal work placement suitable for your skills and interests that you will undertake one day a week.

Internal placements – The Hub Shop / Coffee Shop or other internal College departments.

External Placements – National & Local businesses relating to your work interests

Assessment

During this course you will work towards an employability qualification, covering key elements such as exploring different career options, interview techniques and CV writing to become work ready. You will also develop your English and maths. You should expect to carry out one day supported community action, or one day supported college work placement per week.

Progression

During this year you will prepare for Pathway to Employment Stage 2 and explore possible work placements for your Supported Internship with our P2E Co-Ordinator and our employer links. You may also progress straight into employment.
