Delivered at both Cornwall College Camborne and Cornwall College St Austell, our qualification consists of a range of units that enable you to learn, develop and practice skills required for employment in holiday parks, tour operator companies, travel agencies, tourist information centres, tourist attractions, cruise line companies or conference events organisations.

We look forward to our holidays, but we don’t often think about the processes, systems and activities which enable us to have an enjoyable experience whilst away from home. This course focuses specifically on providing knowledge and skills to be able to work in this ever-growing sector by exploring behind-the-scenes to identify what elements make up the tourism industry. Developing your interpersonal skills, confidence, self-esteem to enable you to deliver excellent customer service, making you more employable and ready for the workplace. Some of the units we deliver include Worldwide Tourism Destinations, UK Tourist Destinations, Customer Service, Visitor Attractions, Activity Tourism, Promotions & Sales in Travel & Tourism and Interpersonal Skills.?

Economically tourism is one of the most important industrial activities in the world. More than 1 billion people take international tourist trips every year, and this number is increasing year-on-year. Tourism accounts for over 10% of global GDP and 1 in every 11 jobs. When people say “the world is your oyster” the tourism industry and tourism jobs are one of the only sectors that enables you to travel and explore the world while you are working.

  What You Will Learn

This one-year programme is an introduction to the travel and tourism industry where you will explore the different types of tourism and consider the reasons why people travel. Explore how travel and tourism businesses gain an advantage over their competitors and develop as successful companies. Investigate how internal and external factors can affect tourists and the tourism industry. Explore and develop the interpersonal skills required to meet the needs of the industry. Examine, practise and develop the stages of the selling process, the product range and making profits.

  Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 ideally including English and mathematics.

  Work Experience

As part of your course you will be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement

  Assessment

Continuous ongoing assessment takes place throughout the academic year to develop a portfolio of evidence. These include role-plays with your peers and members of the public, presentations, online multiple-choice exams, customer service based practical assessments, teambuilding activities, and written reports.

  Progression

When you have completed the Level 2 course, you will have the underpinning knowledge of the tourism industry to enable you to be ready progress on to the more advanced Level 3 courses. The Level 3 courses also include a full Diploma and a stand-alone NCFE Qualification in Cabin Crew. The courses include work experience and work placements where you will be working in the tourism industry, gaining valuable industry experience, and often leading to employment.?

If you are passionate about plants and fascinated by ­flowers then a career in horticulture is the right choice for you and an apprenticeship is a great way to earn money while learning new skills at the same time. There is a wide range of careers available in this sector including employment in garden retailing, plant nurseries, edibles production, landscaping, parks and gardens, and turf care. Our apprenticeships are designed to help you focus your skills and decide which career path is best for you. An apprenticeship will allow you to earn money while you are studying. In order to start your apprenticeship in horticulture you can either join our Level 3 apprenticeship, depending on your GCSE results, or you can choose one of our Level 2 courses. Our industry links with partners like the Eden Project, ensure that you will study in a hugely inspiring and totally engaging environment during your time on this apprenticeship.

From weddings and music gigs to exhibitions and sporting events you will get great job satisfaction when you see how successful an event you have been working on has been. If you’re looking for that first step towards a career in the exciting world of events, then our Live Events & Promotions apprenticeship could be the right choice for you. Throughout the course can expect event management workshops, guest speakers and visits. You will also have the opportunity to work directly in a technical, artistic and administrative capacity in either small or large scale, indoor or outdoor events, depending on your apprenticeship provider. Build on the skills you gained at Level 2 and further develop your event management abilities, increasing your knowledge and understanding of practices relating to live events and promotions.
