Travel and Tourism Students If you are looking for an exciting and rewarding career in the travel and tourism industry, whether you want to join a local visitor attraction, hotel or holiday park, or work in a travel agency, venture further overseas as a resort representative, or even travel around the world as cabin crew or by working on a cruise ship, then we have the right course for you.

Our qualification consists of a range of units that enable you to learn, develop and practice skills required for this exciting industry. As well as delivering a wide range of skills and knowledge, our industry focus and employability ethos means that we have some of the best connections and partnerships to really help boost your career.

As part of our Travel and Tourism Training Suite we have a cabin crew training replica, overseas resort representative training venue, tourist information point and reception for you to practice the skills you need. Our students also experience working on a BAC 1-11 aircraft at the Cornwall Heritage Aviation Centre.

For those looking to enhance their CV’s, we have partnered up with Falmouth Events, The National Trust, St Ives Bay Holiday Park and Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre. Students also take part in high profile events, like the Tall Ships Regatta, Falmouth Oyster Festival and the Padstow Christmas Festival.

Students also have the opportunity to travel on a UK or overseas residential study visit; recent destinations include Barcelona, Paris, Disneyland and London. Other visits include Newquay Airport, the Eden Project, Heartlands, Flambards, St Ives, Pendennis Castle, St Michaels Mount, Lanhydrock, Bude and Land’s End. Plus, there is the chance to make the most of opportunities as they arise, such as going on board a cruise ship visiting Falmouth and to also take part in local, tourism related, community activities.

What you will learn

While completing this course, you’ll cover a variety of subjects, such as: Worldwide travel and tourism destinations, worldwide visitor attractions, interpersonal skills for employment in the industry, retail travel services and activity tourism in the UK. You will also study a separate qualification on the aviation industry.

Alongside this you will achieve professional industry qualifications such as England’s Coast Ambassador and Sustainable Tourism.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 ideally including English and mathematics.

Work experience

As part of your course you will be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement.

Assessment

Continuous ongoing assessment takes place throughout the academic year to develop a portfolio of evidence. These include role-plays with your peers and members of the public, presentations, online multiple-choice exams, customer service based practical assessments, teambuilding activities, and written reports.

Progression

Continue your studies with our Travel & Tourism Diploma Level 3 or go onto an apprenticeship, such as our Level 3 Event Assistant Apprenticeship.
