The Level 2 Technical Certificate is a fast-paced course which requires focus and self-motivation.
This practical based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the hairdressing industry or for further specialist study.
The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing aims to provide you with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the hairdressing Industry. The skills include carrying out services such as; shampooing, conditioning, styling, dressing and setting hair, cutting and colouring. The college’s commercial salon enables you to build skills and techniques while in a real working environment, embedding the science and theory needed to enable you to achieve this qualification.
In the practical workshops you will observe, learn and practice all skillS leading to achievement of your practical synoptic exam
The content of the course is enhanced with specialist workshops, bespoke training and guest speakers.
With the addition of work experience this course will enable you to develop and progress and a hairdresser.
What You Will Learn
You will study the following:
Principles of hairdressing and barbering services Inc. Consultation skills, Legislation, Health & Safety
Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Style, set and dress hair
Cut hair using basic techniques
Colour and lighten hair
Employer involvement includes workshops, demonstrations and specialist training

Please note: All candidates must achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement for this qualification before they can be awarded a qualification grade – Work experience placements will be discussed in further depth at interview.

End point assessment:
Theory
One externally set, externally moderated assignment
One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions
Practical
The synoptic assignment is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. It requires candidates to identify and use effectively in an integrated way an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories, and knowledge from across the content area. Candidates will be judged against the assessment objectives.
Employer involvement in the delivery and/or assessment of this qualification is essential for all candidates and will be externally quality assured

This practical based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the hairdressing industry or for further specialist study.
This qualification will allow you to progress into employment or on to a Level 3 Technical Diploma qualification such as:
City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing or Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
Level 3 Apprenticeship in Hairdressing
