Art and Design Foundation Diploma

Level 3 • Full-time • Cornwall College St Austell

The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is a wonderful year of discovery. You will have the time to explore your interests in Art and Design and decide which specialism you feel most comfortable developing. If you are coming from A levels, this will be a year away from a ‘school’ mentality; we are keen for you to develop as an independent creative who is willing to push boundaries. If you are someone who feels they just need a bit of breathing space, to have some time to explore and be creative, then this year can be a time to do just that. This course is very much about practical learning – you will be spending a lot of time in the Art and Design studios, where you will have a dedicated workspace and plan chest to keep all your work organised. The work you produce will build towards a portfolio for you to take with you to interviews and onward employment. You’ll be exploring a wide range of media and building on skills that you already have. You’ll be studying a subject you enjoy and developing all of the essential skills you need as a creative artist, or designer, as you progress through the course. Our studios and workshops are bright and airy and we are fortunate in having dedicated 3D, print room and ceramics workshops. Our staff have a range of specialist skills from Fine Art, printmaking, contextual studies, graphics and photography, and we also have supportive technical staff, in the workshops.

Getting Started on eBay Workshop

No Qualification • Part-time • Cornwall College St Austell

On this one day workshop you will learn how to buy and sell on e-Bay. Learn how to find a bargain, how to make money selling unwanted items, how to spot a fake, learn the real value of items, become a power seller and be safe and secure at the same time. We suggest that you bring along a pad and pen and a packed lunch and any other refreshments that you may require. This is a FREE* workshop - apply for your place now. *This workshop will be free for students who will be 19+ as of 31.08.21 and have not attended the workshop before. If you have already attended this workshop and wish to repeat it a fee will apply. This workshop runs on a Saturday from 9.30am to 4.00pm for 1 day. FdA Art and Design Practice

The FdA Art & Design Practice is a radical and innovative interdisciplinary art degree programme. It reflects the direction the creative industries are taking by encouraging the blurring of boundaries between traditional art and design disciplines. The freedom of the flexible curriculum allows you to nurture your creative potential and direct your study to achieve the skills and unique personal portfolio you need to enter the workplace. You will have dedicated studio workspace and access to a wide range of purpose-built workshops and digital facilities. These include textiles, photography, print making, fine art, ceramics, graphic design and multimedia with full technical support. A key feature of the art degree programme is its engagement with a variety of employers through live briefs and input into the course by industry specialists. Through ongoing professional development, the programme will build your confidence as you develop and evaluate an individual programme of study. You will learn to balance time and resources and identify opportunities which will be important skills for your chosen career. Work-based learning is embedded throughout, through the Sustainable Practice and Creative Enterprise initiative which acts as a forum to bring together students and creative industry representatives to work on live projects.
