Swedish Massage Certificate

The Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in how to provide the relaxing and stress relieving treatment of body massage.

Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety, and client care and communication. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification, such as anatomy and physiology.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in providing body massage treatments to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to provide your own services for clients.

What you will learn

You will study practical massage techniques and the relevant supporting theory.

Students will be required to read, revise and study at home to support their learning and help prepare for the theory exams.

To gain this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. Evidence may take the following:

Observed work
Evidence of prior learning or attainment
Written assignments/case studies
Externally set and marked theory paper

Models may be required for some of the practise and assessment sessions.

Students also get to work on members of the public in the college therapy rooms enhancing your work skills and client contact. You will also need to collect case studies as part of your course, documenting your work.

Entry requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course. However, a good standard of English and the ability and motivation to self-study as this is a fast track course that requires the student to study to a high standard. As with all therapy professions, you will need to create the right impression with your clients and must therefore be professional, courteous and discreet. Excellent communication skills are essential.

This is an intensive, knowledge-based course and we do look for enthusiasm and motivation to succeed on the course.

Assessment

Theory is delivered and in house exams are set, however emphasis is placed on practical learning. Paying clients are to be used for practical assessment.

Alongside the theory you will produce a portfolio of your work which will be verified and should include assessment books, projects, and theoretical work.

Progression

This qualification may lead directly into employment in the beauty or complementary therapy industries as a massage therapist in a salon or clinic or self employment as a massage therapist.

It is always an advantage to offer as many different treatments as possible to your clients and at Cornwall College we offer a full range of Hair, Beauty and Holistic qualifications.

You may like to think about one of our other beauty qualifications such as Beauty Therapy, Sports Massage or Spa Therapy.
