This is a part time course in Stone Therapy Massage. It is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in how to provide the relaxing and stress relieving treatment of massage including the skills of using hot and cold stones to massage.

To carry out this unit the learner will also cover health, safety and hygiene procedures.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in providing massage treatments to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to provide your own services for clients

  What You Will Learn

You will learn the practical skills required to enable you to provide relaxing and stress relieving stone therapy massage treatments. The Stone Therapy Massage programme covers Anatomy & Physiology to develop and provide an in-depth understanding of the human body

This is a certified professional training course using deep tissue techniques which covers the full body. Our Hot and Cold Stone Massage Course offers massage techniques that go back many thousands of years.

The hot stone massage course is ideal for anyone wishing to learn to apply these special stones (usually basalt) to offer an invigorating and amazing massage treatment. No previous experience is required and this treatment can be incorporated into many holistic therapy treatments or as a stand-alone therapy. Once the stones have been placed correctly and have been left to do their job, it is then often followed up by a holistic massage which offers a more intense and deeper treatment. The heat from the stones helps to penetrate the body and aids in relaxing the muscles on a deeper level than just normal massage. It is recommended that students have a basic knowledge of massage

You will develop practical and theoretical skills learning a variety of Indian influenced techniques. This is an excellent skill to gain as the client can have this treatment fully dressed – making it a very versatile treatment that can be performed anywhere.

  Entry Requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course. However, a good standard of English and the ability and motivation to self-study to a high standard. As with all therapy professions, you will need to create the right impression with your clients and must therefore be professional, courteous and discreet. Excellent communication skills are essential. This is an intensive, knowledge-based course and we do look for enthusiasm and motivation to succeed on the course.

  Work Experience

As part of your course you will be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement.

  Assessment

Theory is delivered and in house exams are set, however emphasis is placed on practical learning. Paying clients are to be used for practical assessment.

Alongside the theory you will produce a portfolio of your work which will be verified and should include assessment books, projects, and theoretical work

I was very nervous and excited to start college. I was living in Looe and nobody that I knew from my school was going to do the course that I was going to do, so yeah, I had first day feels, but it was great. I made friends really quickly and like everyone says it goes really fast, so enjoy it. I loved my hairdressing course and getting really hands on. Before I started college I spent the summer in a salon, just as an assistant, soaking everything up and watching lots. I also practiced things on my friends and family, even if it was just blow drying. I have very curly hair so I really enjoyed trying new things out on my own hair too. There are so many options with hairdressing, it’s really limitless.

I now have my own salon in South London called Bleach. I also do a lot of freelance work, which I have been doing for about 10 years now working in TV, music videos, touring with musicians and artists on their tours, lots of live TV and photo shoots and things like that. I have also been able to travel, all things I never even imagined I would be able to do, so your possibilities are endless.

If the freelance side of things is what you would like to get into be very well rounded. I think it’s played well for me that I can do everything from cutting, colouring and extensions down to perming and shampoo and sets. When I was at college I was like; “oh another perm!”, but all of those things really shape everything that you end up being able to do. They give you so many skills that you might think at the time you’re not going to need but you really will want them! Practice as much as possible and play around, your friends will get tired of having their hair done.
