This course could change your life it’s an active well paid job your after and you want to travel the world. The course will enable you to take your carpentry skills far beyond the usual DIY level and give you an understanding of general building construction along with the part a carpenter plays in the construction of al sorts of buildings.

The course will enable you to work confidently in a construction related work place. All of our training takes place in a construction related environment and with carpentry you’ll be working on your own timber frame house either in our large workshops or outside to add a bit more site realism to the course.

We have a large range to tools and equipment for you to practice with, you’ll also have access during the course to our wood machine shop to experience the machines we have. Your teaching will be delivered by highly experienced qualified trades people who have many years’ experience of working in the construction industry.

  What You Will Learn

You will learn all the above as well as sharpening techniques, care of your tools and how to use then safely. You will learn to work as part of a team, You will learn how to plan and undertake techniques to complete your project. You will be involved in discussion about technique and methods.

You will be taught all aspects of carpentry activities from laying floors to fitting kitchen and fitting roofs. By the end of the course you will achieve a qualification Yes! But you will also have the experience of the carpentry staff passed onto you and complete backup of that team which means that you will be able to work in any construction site in the world with confidence.

  Work Experience

None needed but experience will help you put into practice what you are being taught.

  Assessment

You will be assessed variously, by exam, both online and written. You will also be assessed by your tutor through practical tasks.

  Progression

Site Carpentry Diploma Level 3 or the Site Carpentry Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3. You may also be able to enter the workplace in a junior role if you have gained your Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accreditation.

This course will enable you to fit out very high specification interiors in cars, motorhomes, super Yachts, planes or design and fit kitchens, offices, shops or set up your own furniture making business. The course is delivered here at the Camborne campus within the dedicated furniture suite where we have a large maker’s workshop, a design room, a power tool room and a finishing room as well as access to the wood machine/ joinery workshop. Within the workshops you will have practical access to equipment and staff that will enable you to progress your design to completion. You will have time to learn techniques that you can further develop. We are the only furniture provider in Cornwall and one of only a few furniture apprenticeship courses in the UK. We expect our learners to work to very high standards and this is reflected in the fact that one of our learners won Gold at the National World skills UK competition and has recently picked up the apprentice of the year for the Cornwall College Group. Furniture Making & Furnishings Certificate

This Level 1 one-year introduction to the subject of furniture making is ideal if you have no prior skills or knowledge about furniture and wood craft. There is the option of progressing on to our Level 2 and 3 Diplomas. If you have a creative soul with practical ability, a course in furniture making may be an ideal route to a rewarding career. Furniture design is a specialised field where function and fashion collide. Furniture has evolved and changed with the times, some styles have remained constant throughout the years, while others have drastically changed or become obsolete. We offer two ways to train in furniture design and making, either full-time at college or part-time as an apprentice. You may wish to start full-time and build your skills and confidence before moving on to an apprenticeship.
