The Level 2 NVQ is workplace-based, and for those that have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating. This qualification, when completed, completes the full qualification at Level 2.

The NVQ is assessed solely in the workplace, and requires a portfolio of evidence to be collected and assessed by our assessor.
There will be a minimum of two on-site assessments undertaken in the workplace; along with reviews and portfolio-building support sessions. Applicants will need to have a qualified plumber provide witness statements to verify the authenticity of their submitted work. The evidence submitted will need to cover health and safety, hot and cold-water systems, central heating systems, and maintenance operations.

  What You Will Learn

For this qaulification there is no college-based teaching or learning - the NVQ is a demonstration of competence in the workplace.

If you are a practical person, who enjoys a challenge, problem solving and making a real difference in people’s lives, then a career as a gas engineer could well be the path for you. You will spend time learning gas theory here with us at Cornwall College covering all aspects from natural gas combustion to gas appliance installation. Are you working in the construction industry but do not have a NVQ qualification in your specialist trade? If so On Site Assessment & Training (OSAT) is your route to gaining recognition for the skills that you possess. OSAT allows you to continue working full time on site with no college attendance needed. A specialist assessor will work with you in the workplace to guide you through your qualification ensuring you know exactly what to do to successfully complete your NVQ qualification. Plant Operations – Groundworks Certificate

This Plant Operations certificate is your gateway to gaining your full professional operators qualification if you want operate heavy plant to the exacting standards of the modern construction site this is the course for you. Once complete and the CPCS test has been passed this is your passport to a career in the construction industry and recognition of your professional operating skills. You will have the opportunity to carry out a number of construction tasks using plant ranging for 1.5 ton mini excavators up to 14 ton 360 degree tracked excavators and if that’s not enough you will also receive industry training using 6 ton High vis forward tipping dumpers and Telescopic handlers. At the end of the 1 year course you will have been assessed on 4 machines to gain your level 2 qualification and given the opportunity to take CPCS tests should you wish. As a trainee operator you will be involved in basic excavation trenching etc. then progressing onto more complex excavations for example structural foundations and service excavations. All training will be delivered to the high standards required By the Construction industry training board. Bicton College is in the fortunate position to be in partnership with Holt JCB, this allows student’s access to the range of the most up to date machines currently available.
