Performing Arts Diploma in Partnership with Studio 4

Dance Courses at St Austell UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts.

A full-time vocational course designed to prepare performers for the performing arts industry, dance conservatoires and universities. It offers an extended diploma qualification (equivalent to 3 A-levels) in partnership with Studio 4.

The course will provide students with the knowledge, skills, and connections to progress successfully at degree level study or employment in the performing arts industry. The course will be for two years and learners will train at Cornwall College with large dance studios and the Keay Theatre and Studio 4's new Creative Centre, fully equipped with sprung floors, mirrors and a wonderful new performance space. Our course provides young performers with the opportunity to access high-quality training with industry professionals and for their talents to be challenged, progressed and nurtured.

Our talented teaching team of outstanding working professionals will provide the best professional training possible for every learner on our course. Daily Technique classes will include: Ballet, Technical Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Acting, Singing, Commercial, Contemporary and Street Dance. Specialist classes include: Audition Prep, industry masterclasses and talks, Gymnastics and Fitness. Alongside projects that will develop project management, performance, and teaching skills. Our UAL course will provide regular performance opportunities locally and nationally!

Our Patrons who are all very much at the forefront of their careers; Kayla Lomas, Olivia Higham, Josh Wharmby, Tom Davis Dunn, Jake Moyle and Ben Christopher Harris will visit regularly and provide feedback and guidance for every single learner.

Our Alumni are now spreading their wings at: Wilkes Academy, London Studios Centre, Performers college, Plymouth university, University of East London, Shockout and some of their performance credits/work include: X Factor, The Brit Awards, East London Dance, various pantomimes.

What you will learn

You will learn through a range of exhilarating units covering subjects such as Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Commercial and Body Conditioning. You will also have the opportunity to participate in acting, music and stage craft lessons. As well as this you will take part in project work that will encourage you to become an intelligent and reflective dance artist and enable you to develop fundamental skills to support you moving within your career.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4, including English or mathematics. Successful selection is also based on interview and an audition.

Work experience

As part of the course you will partake in work experience to prepare you to progress into the performing arts industry. In your first year of study you will complete around 2 weeks of work experience.

In your second year you will undergo an industry placement which will be 1 day a week as well as 3 weeks at the end of the year.

Exciting examples of where you could go include dance companies, holiday parks, theatre’s and schools etc.

Assessment

You will be assessed on the Dance course through project and technique work and a mixture of practical and theory work which is made up of reflective writing, journals, creative websites and the creation of portfolios. Our courses awarding body is UAL who are arts focused, there will be no exams on this course.

Progression

Continue to higher education study or conservatoire training. Learners have gone on to study at Trinity Laban, NSCD, Performers College, Bodywork, London Studio Centre, Shockout Arts, Urdang, Middlesex University, Laine Theatre Arts, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and more.
