Are you working in the construction industry but do not have a NVQ qualification in your specialist trade? If so On Site Assessment & Training (OSAT) is your route to gaining recognition for the skills that you possess.


OSAT allows you to continue working full time on site with no college attendance needed. A specialist assessor will work with you in the workplace to guide you through your qualification ensuring you know exactly what to do to successfully complete your NVQ qualification.


Completing the level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations Site Carpentry will make you eligible to apply for a CSCS Gold Skilled Worker Card.

  What You Will Learn


You will recognise the existing trade skills that you have and understand how to complete your NVQ portfolio to showcase these skills and achieve your qualification.


You will typically need to provide evidence to demonstrate that you complete the following in the workplace:


• ability to conform to workplace health, safety and welfare
• confirm the occupational method of work

• confirm work activities and resources for an occupational work area

• install bespoke first fix components

• install bespoke second fix components

• develop and maintain good occupational working relations

• set up and use transportable cutting and shaping machines

Developing Plastering Skills (Saturday Skills)

Level 1 • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne


This course is best suited anyone that had successfully completed the 'Introduction to Plastering' course. The course goes in to more detail and will enable you to develop your plastering skills. It will help you to carry out small jobs at home or it will be a great stepping stone to a new career as a plasterer. Please Note: Due to the recent Government announcement of a national lockdown unfortunately we will be looking to postpone all Saturday Skill courses until the 27th February 2021. These courses will be condensed into 5 weeks with an attendance from 9.00am-4.00pm with a 30 minute break. If you have any further enquiries please contact us.

Furniture Making Diploma

Level 2 • Full-time • Cornwall College Camborne


If you like working with wood. If you have an interest in design and the beauty of the finished product. If you take real pride in your work, keep reading. If you don’t, then this course is not for you. Level 1-2Furniture making is an introduction into how to produce quality furniture. You will learn from the basics upwards. The course focus is on hand skills, on how to construct both simple and complicated joints. You will learn about the different types of wood used in the industry and its suitability for different projects, as well as sustainability. Whilst the focus is on hand skills, you will also be taught how to use a wide variety of woodworking machines in our extensive machinery shop. Part of the course will entail the construction of a bedside cabinet, which incorporates a door and drawer. You will produce your own design to recreate in veneer on the door panel, and you will finally be shown finishing techniques to show off an outstanding piece of work. We pride ourselves in encouraging ambition in our students to push themselves into making something they never dreamt that they could. The end result should be as rewarding for us as yourself
