Our tutors are industry professionals and they will demonstrate the practical techniques as well as best practice so that you can be sure that you are equipped with the skills and know-how to perform these services independently.

Practical skills are developed on hand trainers - once a level of competence is reached clients are to be used for assessment. Theory is delivered alongside each unit and in house exams are set, however emphasis is placed on practical learning.

Students will be expected to wear uniform and present themselves in a professional manner as practical work will be assessed in the commercial salon.

  Entry Requirements

You will need to have a minimum GCSEs at grades 4 – 9 in English and mathematics. At Cornwall College, we recognise that applicants without these qualifications can often offer a high level of competence as well as life experience and we will therefore consider all applications on their merits alongside their qualifications. If you are unsure as to whether or not you meet the requirements, please call the department and ask to speak to the study programme manager who will be happy to discuss it with you.

  Work Experience

You are expected to find an external work placement while on the course. This will help you gain valuable work experience to help you develop a career in this exciting industry. However, we have work place coordinators that can help you or you may be able to gain work experience in our own commercial Salons open to the public.

  Assessment

You will be assessed through either written assignments or online multiple choice questions, as well as practical assessment on customers in our commercial salons that are open to the public.

  Progression

Once you have completed the nail services Level 2 course, you will have a basic understanding of the nail industry and be ready to move on to the more advanced Level 2 and 3 courses.

You could use your newly gained qualification to seek employment in industry. However, it is always an advantage to offer as many different services as possible to your clients, so once you have achieved your Level 2, we would recommend that you enhance your knowledge base and develop your skills by progressing on to the Nail Services Level 3 course at Cornwall College.
