Introductory welding skills in MMA. This qualification will teach you the fundamental underpinning knowledge, relevant to your chosen welding process including, safety, use of equipment and choice on consumables. Your will learn how to set the welding parameters and electrical conditions, relevant to the welding process required and material to be joined. Furthermore you will develop the practical skills required to safely produce five practical welding tests in the flat horizontal/vertical positions.

  What You Will Learn

You will produce welds and visually assess that they meet the requirements of the weld procedure specification (WPS). Upon completion of the knowledge section and welded joints, training and continue towards BS4872 coded welding

This occupation is found in the advanced manufacturing engineering and engineering construction sectors. The broad purpose of the occupation is to carry out metal fabrication work using things such as rolled steel joists, columns, channels, steel plate and metal sheet etc. Work includes manufacturing bridges, oil rigs, ships, petro-chemical installations, cranes, platforms, aircraft, automotive and machinery parts, sheet metal enclosures, equipment supports, and anything that can be fabricated out of metal. Fabricators can work alone or in teams, in factories or on operational sites. Fabricators use a large range of metals including steel, aluminium and titanium at a range of thickness's from 0.5mm up to over 20mm. The size and weight of the fabrications can range from components that can easily be picked up by hand, to massive structures that require several cranes to manipulate. In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with planners, supervisors, inspectors, designers, welders, pipe fitters, fitters, machinists, riggers, steel erectors, stores personnel, painters and many others involved in manufacturing, production, maintenance and repair. An employee in this occupation will be responsible for the quality and accuracy of their own work whilst ensuring it conforms to a relevant specification such as an engineering drawing or an international standard. Fabricators are also responsible for the health, safety and environmental (HS&E) protection of themselves and others around them.

Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating

Following the revised Building Regulations published April 2005, from April 2006, all installers wishing to certify their own work under Gas Safe Registration legislation, (rather than call Local Authority Building Control) must hold a certificate in Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating. This course can help you deliver your responsibilities under the Home Energy Conservation Act. This course is also suitable for engineers working on renewable energies and wish to be registered under the NICEIC MCS Micro Certification Scheme. In order to take this qualification you must have one of the following: Appropriate NVQ Level 3/BTEC or equivalent Appropriate industry registration scheme e.g. Gas Safe Register or OFTEC-105E or equivalent At least two years industry experience of installation of domestic heating and hot water systems currently un-certificated skills equivalent NVQ Level 3 At least two years industry experience of design and advice services of domestic heating and hot water systems at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent This is a one day course and the content includes topics such as: Benefits of efficient heating and hot water Energy efficiency and the building regulations The importance of boiler efficiency The importance of an efficient hot water cylinder Domestic heating and hot water controls and Commissioning The training is designed to suit both experienced and new installers, and consists of a daylong workshop covering a range of topics, including new building regulations, climate change and high efficiency condensing boilers. This is followed by a 90-minute multiple-choice test, which if you pass, gives you the new certificate. We will also ensure you receive training material three weeks before the training for self study to be prepared for the training day. This course is ideal for registered engineers who intend to provide energy advice in the home, develop additional energy advice-giving skills, understand fuel poverty, understand the importance of energy efficiency and how to refer householders for additional assistance. After the course you will be able to certify your own work under the Gas Safe Register.
