The Leader in Adult Care will guide and inspire teams to make positive differences to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. They will be a leader of the care team and will develop and implement a values-based culture at a service or unit level. They may be responsible for business development, financial control, organisational resilience and continuity as well as for managing risk and leading on organisational change. Leaders in Adult Care may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, community day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings. The role of Leader in Adult Care in this standard also covers Personal Assistants who operate in a management role but they may only work directly for one individual who needs support and/or care services.
Typical job titles include registered, assistant, deputy, unit or service manager.
A Leader in Adult Care has responsibility for managing community or residential based services. This role has a large element of leadership, whether with other care workers and networks or in leading the service itself. A successful apprentice will have met all the requirements. They have a responsibility to ensure the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led. They may be a registered manager of a service, unit, deputy or assistant manager. They will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance of the care given and the values and training of staff with established standards and regulations.

Advanced Counselling Studies*

This programme is intended for people who have completed an introductory counselling course, typically at a Level 2 who wish to develop their counselling skills further or gain a qualification in Higher Education which qualifies them to apply for the Level 5 Diploma in Person Centred Counselling (a professional qualification in Counselling) The Certificate of Advanced Counselling, enables you develop your counselling skills within a person-centred framework. You are not required to work with clients, nor work within a placement, as this is an academic course which does not in itself provide a profession qualification, but can create a pathway towards achieving this. Please note, that there is no automatic progression route between our courses. Each qualification requires a rigorous assessment process including an interview, and due to limited places, you may be placed on a waiting list or may not be successful on your first application.

Dental Nursing Advanced Apprenticeship

Level 3 • Work-based • Cornwall College St Austell


From a general check-up to root canal work, as a dental nurse you will be required to have a reassuring and caring nature as it will be your job to look after the patients. You will also need great communication and organisational skills as you will be responsible for looking after the equipment and maintaining high levels of cleanliness. Successful completion of the course will enable you to become a qualified dental nurse and register with the General Dental Council. New apprenticeship standards are being introduced to focus skills training more on specific career roles within industry. These government changes mean the apprenticeship skills development programme is written with employers ensuring you are much more work ready for a specific role by the time you complete your training. You will be required to attend college on 1 day per week. An essential element of the programme is that you must achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing (City and Guilds), which consists of a portfolio of evidence and observations of you working in the dental practice by an assessor, plus four exams. You can expect your employer to give you all the hands-on practical experience you need to become a fully qualified dental nurse. You will need great communication and organisational skills, plus a caring manner to succeed in this industry.
