Come and join our experts here at Cornwall Colleges Hairdressing and Beauty department where they will show how to create casualty make up. You will gain an insight into special effects working with latex and discovering some of the tricks of the trade. This is the perfect introductory course that could lead you on to other courses within Cornwall College Hairdressing and Beauty.

I was very nervous and excited to start college. I was living in Looe and nobody that I knew from my school was going to do the course that I was going to do, so yeah, I had first day jitters, but it was great. I made friends really quickly and like everyone says it goes really fast, so enjoy it. I loved my hairdressing course and getting really hands on. Before I started college I spent the summer in a salon, just as an assistant, soaking everything up and watching lots. I also practiced things on my friends and family, even if it was just blow drying. I have very curly hair so I really enjoyed trying new things out on my own hair too. There are so many options with hairdressing, it’s really limitless.

I now have my own salon in South London called Bleach. I also do a lot of freelance work, which I have been doing for about 10 years now working in TV, music videos, touring with musicians and artists on their tours, lots of live TV and photo shoots and things like that. I have also been able to travel, all things I never even imagined I would be able to do, so your possibilities are endless.

If the freelance side of things is what you would like to get into be very well rounded. I think it’s played well for me that I can do everything from cutting, colouring and extensions down to perming and shampoo and sets. When I was at college I was like; “oh another perm!”, but all of those things really shape everything that you end up being able to do. They give you so many skills that you might think at the time you’re not going to need but you really will want them! Practice as much as possible and play around, your friends will get tired of having their hair done.

This course is an ideal start if you are thinking about pursuing a career in the beauty therapy industry. The VTCT level 4 certificate in Sports Massage Therapy will prepare you for a career as a sports massage practitioner working with injured clients. The elements that make up the course include detailed subjective and objective assessment to differentially diagnose the injury the client may be suffering from. You will learn advanced massage techniques to prevent and manage injury and different treatment modalities and exercises used to support the rehabilitation process. Once you have learnt the fundamentals from our industry experienced lecturers you will put theory into practice when we open our sports therapy clinic to members of the public. This will give you the opportunity to expand your experience of working with different injuries to enhance your learning. This qualification is recognised by the UK’s leading professional body the Sports Massage Association. We set you up to be ready to affiliate with the professional body by supporting you gain 50 hours of professional practice both during your lesson time and working on clients in your own time.

Hairdressing Apprenticeship

As a hairdresser your job is to make people look amazing! From cutting and colouring to styling and consulting with your clients, as an apprentice you will be learning how to do all of these things while at the same time building up a rapport with clients and showing off your lively personality.
