This skills-based programme meets the requirements of one of the fastest growing, dynamic and entrepreneurial sectors in the creative industries. Providing practical specialist knowledge to pursue a career in the game industry in paths such as an animation, level design, 3D modelling or concept art etc. Core artistic and technical skills will be developed to enable creation and building of games and content for a variety of platforms.

You will gain an understanding of the broad areas of games development, ludology, VR, concept work, 3D modelling and animation, level creation, character design, motion capture, history, contextual and social issues, together with an overview of the more technical and creative aspects of the games design pipeline.

Studies include formal lectures, practical workshops, trips to EGX Rezzed (London) and industry based assignments, exploring numerous aspects of digital gaming within a combined creative and technical framework; real-world tasks; creating real products through competitions, live client briefs and for the college’s own games design company; establishing a strong portfolio; web presence and showreel towards future employment. The experience is relevant and realistic.

  Entry Requirements

48 UCAS points from AS and A-Levels (at least 32 points must be at A2-level) or relevant level 3 qualification, ie BTEC National Diploma / BTEC Extended Diploma - PPP Grades required (specific unit grades may be requested). Access to HE Diplomas in a relevant subject - 45 credits at level 3 (specific unit grades may be requested). Plus GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics: alternatives at Level 2 may be considered. Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply. A show reel or portfolio of work will also be required at interview.

  Assessment

Assessment includes coursework, portfolios, pitches and digital work. Communicating concepts through visuals, prototypes, 3D/2D game assets, documentation and the ability to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems is central.
You will also have access to industry standard software and hardware such as Autodesk (3D Studio Max, Maya, Mudbox etc), UE4, Oculus Rifts and a wide range of audio visual equipment.

Alice’s fashion designs have been seen on celebrities such as Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton and Jessie J, she also collaborates with some major manufacturers including Care Bears, My Little Pony and Hello Kitty.

“I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer and the course at Camborne covered lots of different disciplines, which was great as it gave me a wonderful overview of all the various paths open to me and I particularly remember enjoying life drawing. From there I was accepted by The University of Plymouth to study fashion design and on completion of my degree I then moved back to Cornwall and got a job at a high-end fashion boutique, which introduced me to the spectrum of fashion.

My goal was to have my designs on the catwalk at the Clothes Show, so I worked hard, researched a lot, got signed by a portfolio agency and was then contacted by the stylist who wanted me to be involved in the designs for the opening sequence to the show. From there I received work from the X-Factor, Got to Dance and worked with Vogue on a Range Rover launch. "

At this workshop you will learn how to set up and use equipment to give high quality close-up and true macro images (a range of alternatives will be available to try – Close-up filters, extension tubes, bellows, macro lenses and reversing rings). Wellbeing through Art and Craft

On this course you will be able to develop your creative skills by working on a project of your choice with the help and support of the tutor. This could be anything from still life drawing and painting, sketching, perspective drawing, textiles, crochet, sewing machine techniques, card making, water colours and photography. The tutor will give you guidance to achieve your goals and you can adapt them to make your own creations. Your road to wellbeing courses are relaxed and informal, enabling you to improve your wellbeing and mental health, building your self-confidence, and a great way to make friends. Our courses are for anyone aged 19 plus who suffers from or who is recovering from mental ill health. Our courses run one day per week, over 10 to 13 weeks per term. If you miss the start of the course don’t worry, you can join the courses at any time.
