This Level 3 course is designed to be a progression route for Level 2 hairdressers wanting to gain employment within the hairdressing industry and is aimed at learners wishing to further their existing hairdressing skills.

During this course you will be given the opportunity to train in one of our industry standard salons, work in a realistic environment and use the latest equipment, machinery and products within the industry.

Alongside this training, you will be required to complete work related experience within the industry to enrich your programme of study and gain employability skills. You are also required to complete course work and research in your own time towards completion of this qualification

Throughout this course you will learn a variety of advanced practical skills and the associated knowledge, which will develop your employment opportunities within the hairdressing industry. This is an intensive, knowledge-based course and enthusiasm and motivation are important if you wish to succeed on the course.

  What You Will Learn

You will learn how to:

- cut women’s and men’s hair using a variety of advanced techniques
- creatively colour and lighten hair
- creatively style and dress hair
- colour correction services
- be involved with induction, consultation, treatment care and advice, as well as tailoring aftercare advice to individual clients.

  Entry Requirements

You will need a Level 2 hairdressing qualification and a real interest in the hairdressing industry. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to be professional, courteous and discreet when working with clients.

  Work Experience

As part of your course you will be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement.

  Assessment

Practical work will be assessed in the commercial salon working on members of the public in real life scenerios.

  Progression

Afterwards, you may wish to progress on to the salon management qualification or use your new qualification to gain employment in industry.

Opportunities exist in the UK as well as overseas for this fast growing industry. You may move into management or become a trainer, lecturer or a company field technician.

I was very nervous and excited to start college. I was living in Looe and nobody that I knew from my school was going to do the course that I was going to do, so yeah, I had first day jitters, but it was great. I made friends really quickly and like everyone says it goes really fast, so enjoy it. I loved my hairdressing course and getting really hands on. Before I started college I spent the summer in a salon, just as an assistant, soaking everything up and watching lots. I also practiced things on my friends and family, even if it was just blow drying. I have very curly hair so I really enjoyed trying new things out on my own hair too. There are so many options with hairdressing, it’s really limitless.

I now have my own salon in South London called Bleach. I also do a lot of freelance work, which I have been doing for about 10 years now working in TV, music videos, touring with musicians and artists on their tours, lots of live TV and photo shoots and things like that. I have also been able to travel, all things I never even imagined I would be able to do, so your possibilities are endless.

If the freelance side of things is what you would like to get into be very well rounded. I think it’s played well for me that I can do everything from cutting, colouring and extensions down to perming and shampoo and sets. When I was at college I was like; “oh another perm!”, but all of those things really shape everything that you end up being able to do. They give you so many skills that you might think at the time you’re not going to need but you really will want them! Practice as much as possible and play around, your friends will get tired of having their hair done.

Themed Nails

No Qualification • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne


This college certified course is for anyone with an interest in nail art design. We will be running this course 3 times a year covering different seasonal themes. All of these courses can be offered separately or as the whole package.To do one it will cost you a £10 material fee. If you choose to do all 3 it is at a reduced rate of £25.00.
