A progression route for Level 2 hairdressers wanting to progress and further their existing hairdressing skills in advanced techniques as an apprentice within the hairdressing industry. The great thing about being an apprentice is that you will also be earning money at the same time!

You will train in one of our industry standard salons, work in a realistic environment and use the latest equipment, machinery and products within the industry Our courses will put you on the road to a great future; we have developed our qualifications in partnership with industry professionals to ensure the knowledge you gain is not only relevant and current.

Throughout your studies you will learn by completing practical activities and assessments based on professional real-life scenarios in our commercial training salons.

  What You Will Learn

Having mastered the basics of hairdressing in your Level 2 apprenticeship, you will now move on to the more advanced skills of fashion-led cutting techniques and alternative colour and correction techniques.

You will attend lectures in college one day per week while the remainder of the week is spent in the workplace. You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent in the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.

  Entry Requirements

You will need to have a hairdressing Level 2 qualification and have an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice.

  Assessment

You will be assessed through either written assignments or online multiple choice questions, as well as practical assessment on customers in our commercial salons that are open to the public.

  Progression

On successful completion you can go into employment as a senior stylist.

I was very nervous and excited to start college. I was living in Looe and nobody that I knew from my school was going to do the course that I was going to do, so yeah, I had first day feels, but it was great. I made friends really quickly and like everyone says it goes really fast, so enjoy it. I loved my hairdressing course and getting really hands on. Before I started college I spent the summer in a salon, just as an assistant, soaking everything up and watching lots. I also practiced things on my friends and family, even if it was just blow drying. I have very curly hair so I really enjoyed trying new things out on my own hair too. There are so many options with hairdressing, it’s really limitless.

I now have my own salon in South London called Bleach. I also do a lot of freelance work, which I have been doing for about 10 years now working in TV, music videos, touring with musicians and artists on their tours, lots of live TV and photo shoots and things like that. I have also been able to travel, all things I never even imagined I would be able to do, so your possibilities are endless.

If the freelance side of things is what you would like to get into be very well rounded. I think it’s played well for me that I can do everything from cutting, colouring and extensions down to perming and shampoo and sets. When I was at college I was like; “oh another perm!”, but all of those things really shape everything that you end up being able to do. They give you so many skills that you might think at the time you’re not going to need but you really will want them! Practice as much as possible and play around, your friends will get tired of having their hair done.

A progression route for Level 2 Nail Technicians. This course is a follow-on from Level 2 in Nail Services and provides a higher level of skills necessary for employment in specialist nail bars and beauty salons If you are already qualified to a level 2 standard and you are looking to upgrade your qualification, this course will help you to progress in your career as a Nail Technician. Not only do you develop your existing skills, but you will also train in nail art, acrylic, gel and fibreglass nails. It is ideal if you want to be up to date with the very latest nail art procedures; and is a suitable qualification for those looking to set up their own business or offer additional services within their salon. You will be expected to attend College for two/three days a week and will be required to work to high professional standards. You will train in one of our industry standard nail bar, work in a realistic environment and use the latest equipment, machinery and products within the industry. When you are confident enough and have practiced the techniques to a level 3 standard, you will be able to provide services to paying customers. You are also required to complete course work and research in your own time towards completion of this qualification.
