Gas Engineering – T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction

Gas Engineering - T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction This T Level in Gas Engineering is a 2-year qualification that you can study after GCSEs. The course has been designed with leading businesses and employers to give you the skills you need to enter the workforce in a Gas Engineering role within the Building Services Engineering Sector.

This T level is equivalent to three A Levels at A* and is recognised by higher education providers if you wish to continue studying after successful completion.
You will spend 80% of your time at college in high quality classrooms and workshops, and 20% (315 hours) of your time will be on a work placement with an employer.

When you complete your T Level, you will get a nationally recognised certification which will include:

• an overall grade for the T Level, shown as pass, merit, distinction or distinction*
• a separate grade for the core component, using A* to E
• a separate grade for each occupational specialism, shown as pass, merit or distinction
• statements confirming completion of industry placements

It will also give details of what you learned on the course to help you move into skilled employment, a higher apprenticeship or Degree.

What you will learn

To achieve the T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction – Gas Engineering pathway, you must complete the two components of the technical qualification. These are known as the core component and the occupational specialism.

Occupational Specialism: The purpose of this specialism is for learners to know and undertake fundamental gas systems engineering processes and procedures.

On completion of this specialism, you will be able to:

• Install gas systems
• Commission gas systems
• Maintain gas systems
• Decommission gas systems

Core Component

This component focuses on the knowledge and understanding of contexts, concepts, theories and principles relevant to Onsite Construction and Building Services Engineering.

• Fundamental health and safety practices.
• Scientific principles related to construction activities.
• The construction industry and careers within it.
• Principles of sustainability and design.
• Information, data and principles of measurement.
• Tools, equipment and materials used in BSE work.
• Legislation, regulations and approved standards that apply to BSE systems.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in Maths, English, Science and one other subject

Work experience

Industry placements must last for a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days).

Assessment

• Two externally set exams covering knowledge from the building services engineering core (component 350)
• One employer-set project covering knowledge and skills from the building services engineering core (component 350)
• A series of practical assessments for the occupational specialism Electrotechnical Engineering

What will my course look like?

• 4 days a week at College - Camborne Campus
• Site visits, guest speakers, industry event trips
• A minimum of 315 hours in an industry placement

Progression

Learners who achieve this qualification will be able to progress either straight in to employment within the sector, on to a Higher Apprenticeship or in to a University degree level course.
