This course will enable you to fit out very high specification interiors in cars, motorhomes, super Yachts, planes or design and fit kitchens, offices, shops or set up your own furniture making business.

The course is delivered here at the Camborne campus within the dedicated furniture suite where we have a large maker’s workshop, a design room, a power tool room and a finishing room as well as access to the wood machine/ joinery workshop.

Within the workshops you will have practical access to equipment and staff that will enable you to progress your design to completion. You will have time to learn techniques that you can further develop. We are the only furniture provider in Cornwall and one of only a few furniture apprenticeship courses in the UK.

We expect our learners to work to very high standards and this is reflected in the fact that one of our learners won Gold at the National World skills UK competition and has recently picked up the apprentice of the year for the Cornwall College Group. So if you want to become an outstanding furniture maker with a fantastic future come and join us.

  What You Will Learn

You will develop your design skills and making skills to another level as you explore the world of curves, initially you will be engaged in producing a complex box and then will soon be engaged in designing a prototype piece of furniture to present to a customer. You will learn a diverse range of skills from making and designing jigs to operating CNC’s, working as a team and leading a team, looking at a wide range of design influences to enable you to construct complex furniture in the most efficient way possible.

  Entry Requirements

Have evidence of completing a level 2 in furniture making.

  Work Experience

Most learners work on projects at home to enable them to get the most from the course.

  Assessment

You will be assessed variously, by exam, both online and written. You will also be assessed by your tutor through practical tasks. You will also be asked to keep a diary of your progress to use as evidence on the course.

  Progression

Once you have completed your level 3, you can walk away and work or look at Higher level qualifications at university in design.
