Foundation Learning Skills Pathway: Skills Towards Vocational Studies

Foundation Learning Skills Pathway This course is part of the FL Skills pathway. FL Skills aims to develop and prepare you for future studies or work, through a blend of classroom-based and practical sessions.

You will have the opportunity to explore a range of vocational options, develop your skills and have an invaluable opportunity to explore career options, taking part in careers week.

This Pathway is offered at different campuses. The vocational options on offer are specific to the campus you choose to study at, and use specialists to deliver where required.

Our vision is to support you to be INDEPENDENT, CONFIDENT AND RESILIENT so that you are well-prepared to engage with the wider community. The Skills towards Vocational Studies Entry 3 course will give you a range of opportunities and experiences to inform your future steps.

What you will learn

On this course, you will develop skills, knowledge and behaviours for successful learning. You will also gain an insight to different vocational options that will support successful career planning and progression to further study or work.

Why not try out subjects such as catering, sport, customer service, ICT, business & enterprise, art and childcare (subjects are subject to change depending on learner numbers).

Entry requirements

You will be working at Entry 2 / 3 within the areas of English & maths and have an interest in vocational related subjects.

Work experience

Work experience is not a requirement of this course, however employability skills will be at the forefront of your studies during National Careers Week and internal work experience opportunities may be available in our Foundation Learning run shop / Coffee shop, The Hub at our Camborne campus.

At our St Austell campus opportunities may be available in our Foundation learning run VIEW shop and Coffee shop.

Assessment

You will select from a range of different vocational subjects, working towards the BTEC Entry to Vocational Studies qualification. This will enable you to assess your transferable skills and help prepare you for your future. English and maths will also be delivered within your course through a City & Guilds Functional Skills qualification at a level appropriate to you.?

Progression

Once you have completed this pathway, you may wish to progress on to other pathways within Foundation Learning such as FL Vocational or FL Works. You may feel ready for a higher-level course.

Learners tell us that the opportunity to explore cross-college vocational pathways is an opportunity to understand what the higher-level course would be like. They also get to know the staff, gaining skills and building confidence to apply for a higher-level course in their chosen subject area.
