FdSc Soil Science Degree

FdSc Soil Science is a programme designed to train a new wave of soil practitioners and researchers focused on the ability for soil function and health to bring environmental, social and economic benefits.

Our earth is changing, amid the continuing ecological crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, erosion, air, water and soil pollution, we are also facing a future that demands more provision from less viable land as the worlds soils become increasingly depleted. This does not need to be the future we live, through the application of science and ecological principles we can generate positive change and enhancement of the natural environment.

What you will learn

This programme will develop a complete soil science knowledgle base including the crossdiciplinary approaches across soil biology, chemistry and physical processes.

Level 4 Modules Include

- Soil Formation and Classification
- Societies and Soils
- Soil Research Methods
- Soil Biology and Ecology
- Soil Physiochemistry
- Scientific Working and Philosophy


Level 5 Modules Include

- Advanced Methods of Soil Analysis
- Soil Contamination and Remediation
- Regenerative Soil Management in Agroecosystems
- Plant-Soil Interactions
- Research Project
- Management and re-use of soils in construction
- Soil Science in Practice

Entry requirements

UCAS Tariff - 64 points
A level
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - MPP
Access to HE Diploma
Scottish Higher
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 24 points
GCSE/National 4/National 5

Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply

For applicants who require a visa to study in the UK, The Cornwall College Group does not have a visa sponsor licence and therefore unable to accept an application

Work experience

100 hours of relevant industry related work experience

Assessment

Assessment will involve a mixed approach of coursework, practical work and tests. Our assessment methods are designed with industry and acemic applications in-mind, ensuring that your work prepares you for a career in the sector.
