Esports Extended Diploma

The Esports industry is a fast-growing global industry with revenue projected to reach £1.5 billion in 2022 with more than 450 million viewers tuning in during 2021. This is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing industries in the world!

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Esports is a two year, coursework and synoptic assessed course that is highly practical and ensures learners have the skills needed to move onto university or directly into industry. A breadth of Esports skills and careers are explored throughout the two year programme to allow you to choose a range of pathways for your progression. These include but are not limited to sport, marketing, enterprise, IT and the creative industry. You will also have the opportunity to host various Esports events as well as testing your gaming skills against other competitive players.

You will have access to Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Animate, After effects and more...3d modelling software such as Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya. Game engines like Construct 3 and Ue4 and learn to work with the latest gadgets like the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality System as well as out television studio for broadcasting live Esports events.

What you will learn

Whilst studying on the two year course you will develop skills across a range of platforms including Esports events management, coaching, gaming strategies and analysis, business applications, enterprise and entrepreneurship, computer networking, games design, broadcasting, shoutcasting and so much more!

Entry requirements

We expect four GCSE’s at grade 4 and above, one of which should be in either English or maths. You will also need to attend either a face to face or phone interview with the Study Programme Manager. Portfolios of work can be presented or emailed at interview alongside any other certificates, qualifications or experience you feel is beneficial for us to know about. For those students that don’t quite meet the entry requirements we also run a one year, Level 2 UAL course in Media, Games & Photography designed to feed directly into the Games course the following year.

Work experience

Work experience could include games retail or journalism, supporting a games design team at a company in Cornwall or beyond, 3D modelling for artists and clients, supporting live game events such as Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, British Esports championships, Tech South West Esports events and so much more!

Assessment

Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes
a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. For these
qualifications, there are two main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: internal and
synoptic.
