Equine Welfare – Level 4 – Online

Using an evidence-based approach, this course will set out what welfare is, considering the implications of both positive and negative welfare states. We will examine the causes of poor welfare and the legislation and governance that guides us when keeping any animal.

We will also consider the history of welfare and its impact and application in the modern day.

Throughout this course, students will study the following topics:

• Welfare and ethics – basic principles
• The Equine Industry in the UK – governance, legislation
• The application of welfare
• Welfare measurement, assessment and assessment frameworks
• Equine ethology
• The different governing bodies
• The UK equine crisis
• The role of working horses

The Equine Welfare course is entirely online, students will work through the materials in their own time. There will be a variety of different assessments as the course progresses to test learning, some of these may be via informal quizzes, others will be forms of formal assessment. Students will have access to a tutor to help guide them through the course.

This course would suit anyone looking to gain in-depth knowledge of equine welfare, those who keep horses and wish to improve their management, and equine professionals whom would like to complete further CPD in equine welfare.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will gain a Bicton College, certificate of completion and overall grade.
