Electrical Installation Diploma

Plumbing Courses Do you like a challenge? Are you a practical, hand-on problem solver? If the answer is ‘yes’ to these questions then a fulfilling career in the electrical industry may be for you and the Level 1 in Electrical Installation is the perfect first step to take!

You will spend time learning electrical theories in the classroom and then put these into practise in our extensive and dedicated electrical workshop. Cornwall College is proud of its recently created Mezzanine practical workspace, which houses well-stocked working bays featuring industry standard kit for you to put your newfound skills into practise.

As a Level 1 student, you will gain a solid understanding of many aspects of the electrical industry, including wiring circuits, health and safety, installation methods, wiring systems, basic testing, renewables and much more.

Our team of lecturer’s and course managers are friendly, approachable and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from a wide variety of electrical backgrounds. They will guide and support you on your journey making sure that you get the most out of the course.

The Level 1 diploma is all about introducing you to the electrical industry and developing your essential skills. Successful completion of the course can see you move onto our full time Level 2 course to further develop your skills or perhaps an apprenticeship is more your style and is a great alternative. What you will learn

This one-year diploma will see you gain confident hand skills through regular practical sessions in our dedicated electrical workshop. It will also introduce you to the science principles and formulas of the electrical industry. In addition to this, you will learn about the important Health and Safety that governs the industry. Our focus is also on giving you great employability skills such as communication, professionalism, teamwork, autonomy and interview techniques. As part of the electrical Installation diploma you will have the opportunity to achieve GCSE’s at the grades required for progression to level 2 or apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

GCSE’s grade 3 in Maths/English with an eagerness and enthusiasm to learn, develop and grow new skills.

Work experience

Work Experience and Industry placements offer an exciting opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge, allow you to understand first hand, the sector in which you would like to work and get you not only work ready, but potentially open up employment opportunities for you on completion of your course. Our skills to Business team can support you to find suitable placements however; you may find it useful to start researching now, where you might like your placement to take place. Work placement will consisted of a total of 3 weeks achieved by one day a week or 3 weeks as a block in your chosen work place.

Assessment

Each unit will be assessed through online and practical assignment throughout the year. These are centre marked. GCSE’s are exam based.

Progression

This is just the start! Once you have finished the Level 1 diploma and gained required GCSE’s grades, you will have a solid understanding of different aspects of the electrical industry.

Many students either progress onto the full time Level 2 course or choose to gain an apprenticeship with a local employer and earn whilst they learn. It is finding out the route that works best for you.

Cornwall College also offer the Level 2 & Level 3 course, which can springboard you into taking the steps to becoming a fully qualified Electrician.

This career is varied and exciting and offers scope to work locally or anywhere in the world!
