If you’ve always had passion for passing on your knowledge and skills to others, and have your sights set on becoming a teacher or trainer, then this is the course for you and could be your first step to a career teaching in Further Education.

This is a part time course, so you can fit it around other commitments and the groups consist of other like-minded adults, wanting to see if teaching could be their next step. As an introductory programme, you will learn about the roles and responsibilities of teachers, how to teach in an inclusive way and you will plan and deliver a short teaching session, on a topic of your choice to the rest of the class. You will be involved in a mixture of practical activities and group tasks as well as covering some background theory about teaching and learning.

Best of all, as adults you will learn from each other and share experiences. Even if you haven’t been in a classroom for a long time, you’ll find a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with tutors committed to helping you enjoy and succeed during your time with us.

Each of you brings something unique and special, that’s what makes this course hugely rewarding and interesting.

You will be learning from experienced teachers, giving you the best possible start to a career if you decide to follow this path.

  What You Will Learn

This 30 hour part time course will cover what teachers actually do, and which other professionals they work with on a day to day basis. You will learn how to teach a short session, including how to plan and what resources to use. You will find out how to check whether others are learning what you are teaching and how to give and respond to feedback.

  Entry Requirements

There are no pre requisites for this programme. We ask all applicants to complete an initial assessment in English and maths so we can provide any support you might require.

  Assessment

You will be assessed through tasks during lessons completion of short written answers, a reflective diary and a short teaching session.

  Progression

Once you’ve finished the course, you’ll have a real understanding of the fundamentals of teaching and learning. You can progress to our assessor qualifications, if you work in industry and would like to assess people within the workplace. If you’ve really got the bug and passion to teach, you can become a fully qualified teacher in further education by moving onto the Level 5 Diploma In Education and Training. You can study this on a part time basis, to fit in with other commitments, or full time.
