The first thing you’ll notice about this Craft Masonry course is that it’s focused on practical learning – you’ll spend a significant amount of time in our workshop, gaining hands-on experience as you work with a variety of materials and tools. This approach will help you advance your knowledge and enhance your employability in the construction industry.
As a Level 2 course, this diploma is designed to develop your skills and understanding of craft masonry, preparing you for a successful career in the trade. You’ll be learning from experienced and professional masons, who will guide you through essential techniques and industry standards.

Our workshop provides training in a range of masonry skills, including stonework, brickwork, blockwork, arches, decorative features, roofing, rendering, and finishing techniques. As you progress through the course, the projects and units will become more advanced, ensuring you build both confidence and expertise. Level 2 will equip you with a solid understanding of industry expectations and craftsmanship.

The average salary for skilled masons in the UK varies, with entry-level positions starting at around £23,000 per year, while highly experienced professionals can earn up to £50,000 annually.

Our workshop features industry-standard equipment, simulating a real construction site. We also have strong partnerships with local businesses, giving you an excellent opportunity to secure an apprenticeship or employment upon completion. Employers frequently seek feedback from The Cornwall College Group, so this course is the perfect stepping stone to launching your career in craft masonry.

The principles of Craft Masonry and construction along with current building regulations and legislation allowing the learner to take these skills into the workplace.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Three or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and, where relevant, progress in maths and/or English.

Work Experience required as part of the course.

Practical assessments will take place throughout the course. Learners will also complete Health & Safety and principles of construction multiple choice exams.

This will provide a stepping stone for learners that wish to enter the construction industry. It can lead to apprenticeships or fulltime work. The learners will be able to apply for the CSCS approved worker permit once they have achieved the H&S module. Other progression routes available are, HNC, HND leading to managerial roles within the sector.
