Whether you’re wanting to develop your practise after previous L3 study or from your own regular exploration at home, the Level 4 Diploma in Clay and The Community calls on the very foundation of St Austell town and it’s surrounding clay communities – White Gold!

With Investigation, Experimentation, Review and Realisation as the core aspects of the course you’re destined to grow and find yourself as an artist working within the realms of clay. Whether it’s the traditional skills of throwing, hand building, modelling, casting, moulding, glazing decoration and firing or the more unexpected ways of involving clay with paint, print, textile and digital practice, you’ll develop a vast portfolio before focusing on a specialist skill for your final major project.

Because St Austell is home to Clay you’ll get the chance to network with visiting artists engaging in The Austell Project, WhiteGold and Brickfield. You’ll act as assistants to artists and ceramicists delivering community workshops and you’ll be supported to develop your own workshop planning and delivery. You will be a vital part of the regeneration of the Town and surrounding areas, bringing culture to village communities.

This incredible course will facilitate the development and realisation of the practitioner, evolving your practical skillset alongside workshop delivery and even technician work – each learner will gain valuable work experience as an art and design technician in our very own dedicated art and photography building.

“I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer and the course at Camborne covered lots of different disciplines, which was great as it gave me a wonderful overview of all the various paths open to me and I particularly remember enjoying life drawing. From there I was accepted by The University of Plymouth to study fashion design and on completion of my degree I then moved back to Cornwall and got a job at a high-end fashion boutique, which introduced me to the spectrum of fashion.

My goal was to have my designs on the catwalk at the Clothes Show, so I worked hard, researched a lot, got signed by a portfolio agency and was then contacted by the stylist who wanted me to be involved in the designs for the opening sequence to the show. From there I received work from the X-Factor, Got to Dance and worked with Vogue on a Range Rover launch. "
