CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing , is designed to provide you with contextual and specialised knowledge to support you in your role and career as a housing professional. This blended learning/online qualification enables you to be an effective housing practitioner and will provide you with a deeper understanding of how your organisation and others in the housing industry work.

  What You Will Learn

Delivery of Housing Services
• Know the main types of housing providers nationally and the services they deliver
• Know the agencies that work with housing providers to deliver services
• Understand how housing providers are regulated
• Understand how housing providers can improve the services they deliver

Occupancy, Tenure and Lettings
• Understand types of occupancy and tenure
• Understand different types of tenancy
• Understand different approaches to allocation and lettings

Involving Service Users
• Understand why service user involvement is important in a range of housing related settings
• Understand the opportunities for service user involvement in housing
• Understand how to maximise the impact of service user involvement in a specific context


Safeguarding
• Know the legal and regulatory framework for safeguarding adults with care and support needs
• Understand the impact of the legal and regulatory framework for safeguarding adults with care and support needs on professional practice
• Understand the role of partnership working in for safeguarding adults with care and support needs

Housing Repairs and Maintenance
• Understand the approaches to delivering a responsive repairs service.
• Understand the approaches to delivering long term asset management programmes.
• Understand the relationship between the client and contractor roles in the delivery of repairs

Professional Practice Skills
• Understand the key skills, knowledge and behaviours required for the housing professional
• Understand ethics in the context of professional practice in housing
• Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in the context of professional practice in housing
• Be able to assess own professional performance and development

  Entry Requirements

To enrol onto this qualification you should be working in either a paid or voluntary capacity in housing and must also have completed either: CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice An equivalent Level 2 qualification or higher If you do not meet either of the above criteria you must have six months experience of working in the housing sector.

This degree offers an excellent opportunity to increase both your academic skills and your employability. Your second and third years allow you to select optional modules which suit your career aspirations. For example, if you are interested in a career in mental health support you could choose the modules on Psychological Processes and Psychology in Practice. An interest in health promotion could lead you to choose the module in Health Promotion, whereas an interest in developing as a leader could see you choosing the Leadership and Management module. For applicants interested in issues around equality and diversity, there are module choices in Inclusive Practice and Aspects of Rural Life This top up programme is studied as a one year top-up where you will complete Year 3 only. It also develops critical analysis, understanding research methods, problem solving, ITC, professional development, developing your CV and interview techniques and gaining workplace experience. Developing your communication skills, work-related experience and the opportunity to recognise and consider the relationship between the subjects you study in college and your actual working environment is encouraged. Assessment is via essays, reports, presentations, seminars and debates. Support, guidance and preparation for all assessments are embedded in study skills sessions and individual modules.

Dental Nursing Advanced Apprenticeship

Level 3 • Work-based • Cornwall College St Austell


From a general check-up to root canal work, as a dental nurse you will be required to have a reassuring and caring nature as it will be your job to look after the patients. You will also need great communication and organisational skills as you will be responsible for looking after the equipment and maintaining high levels of cleanliness. Successful completion of the course will enable you to become a qualified dental nurse and register with the General Dental Council. New apprenticeship standards are being introduced to focus skills training more on specific career roles within industry. These government changes mean the apprenticeship skills development programme is written with employers ensuring you are much more work ready for a specific role by the time you complete your training. You will be required to attend college on 1 day per week. An essential element of the programme is that you must achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing (City and Guilds), which consists of a portfolio of evidence and observations of you working in the dental practice by an assessor, plus four exams. You can expect your employer to give you all the hands-on practical experience you need to become a fully qualified dental nurse. You will need great communication and organisational skills, plus a caring manner to succeed in this industry.
