Course information

If you’re not sure of what you want to do but think it might be in construction, then this is the starter course for you.

The course has been designed to give you time to try three different trade areas, Carpentry, Bricklaying and Plumbing.

You will also develop your confidence, team skills, maths, communication, Health & Safety and employability skills. We will also revisit British values, Equality & Diversity, and Prevent. Extra-curricular activities will be organised to ensure we have fun along the way.

In carpentry you will learn how to handle tools safely and construct halving joints, housing joints and framing joints.

In bricklaying you will learn how to set out for brick and block walls, tiling, and concreting.

In plumbing you will learn how to bend and join copper pipe, plastic pipe and steal pipe using a variety of jointing methods.

Your course will be supported by Maths and English to ensure you are not only employable but meet the criteria to embark on your next course.

You will also engage with a work experience programme to show you are ready for the workplace or identify any training required to ensure you understand the requirements of the workplace.

You will develop your use and knowledge of a variety of tools and how to maintain them. Your time-keeping and work ethic will be monitored from day one and should you need additional support this will be provided.

This Entry Level course is all about introducing you to the construction industry and developing your essential skills. You’ll be learning from experienced trade professionals and instructors, who are there to give you the very best start to your career.

This 36 week entry level Construction will cover the use of hand tools, components and terminology used in the construction industry. You will learn how to produce basic construction tasks and put them into practice through practical application.

The minimum entry requirements are usually grade 2 in GCSE English and Maths, with an informal interview to discuss your interest in the course. However - as this is our entry-level course - anyone who wishes to apply, who does not have these GCSE grades, can discuss entry requirements at interview.
