BTEC Level 2 Award in Art and Design
The BTEC Level 2 Award in Art and Design qualification provides opportunities for students to develop a range of visual language skills and techniques as well as support personal qualities and transferable skills required of industry and the world of work.
The course consists of practical projects which have been created to provide students with experience of working to assignments that relate closely to those used in the workplace.
Students will look at, and respond to, the work of artists, designers and craftspeople.
While working on the series of projects they will experiment with a wide range of materials, techniques and processes.
There will also be a minimum of 3 hours project based work to complete between sessions.

What you will learn
Unit 1: Introduction to Specialist pathways in Art and Design
Areas of study include, Visual Arts, Design Crafts and Visual Communication. These areas will be coverer briefly before going into more detail in first unit prior to more in-depth learning on specific pathway in subsequent units
Unit 2: Creative Project in Art and Design
Unit 3: Communication of Ideas
Unit 5: Developing an Art and Design Portfolio
Units 1, 3, and 5 are coursework-based assessments which are externally moderated after competition
Unit 2 in completed as a 10 hour internal examination£25 levy cost for materials (examples clay, printing inks, paper)
A tool box with basic art and design materials, this will be discussed at interview
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above.
Assessment
You will be assessed throughout the course on your skills development,, personal development and project work using a Pass, Merit and Distinction grading system.
