This programme is studied as a one year top-up from a relevant foundation degree, where you will complete Year 3 only.

Based at our main Cornwall College Newquay campus you will have the opportunity to study a number of different modules relating to the ocean environment in which you practise your sport, including research into issues arising from the environmental impacts of marine sports and contemporary issues relating to the practice and development of a variety of marine sports.

As an academic course you will study a range of modules reviewing current practice and literature, and you will complete an Honours project culminating in a dissertation enabling you to become an expert on a topic of interest to you.

Alongside this you will explore the essential business, management, transferable and soft skills, which are key to graduate level employment.

Sustainability of marine sector sporting activities and environmental awareness will be considered alongside new and developing technology in the industry.

  Entry Requirements

240 credits with 120 at level 5 from a relevant Foundation Degree, HND, or equivalent in an appropriate subject. All qualifications and subject grades will be considered on an individual basis. HND qualifications may require additional bridging modules.

  Assessment

Assessment is via a combination of assignments, presentations, exams, case studies and practical work.

This qualification is specifically for learners holding a Level 2 qualification in Gym Instruction or equivalent or Level 3 Personal Trainers who are aspiring to acquire the additional knowledge and competencies required to plan and deliver safe and effective kettlebell exercises and training sessions. This course will develop your career on an employed or self-employed basis, and will allow you to add kettlebell exercises to your client’s workouts in just two-days! This qualification is endorsed by The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). This course combines elements of both practical and theoretical learning where you will have the opportunity to apply the theory of kettlebell training in our on-campus sports hall, fully equipped gym and outdoor kettlebell training on one of our many green outdoor areas or 3G pitch. Our industry-experienced lecturers are all fully qualified and practicing professionals themselves and will guide you every step of the way, enabling you to deliver quality kettlebell training exercises within your classes or PT sessions. You’ll be learning everything industry requires. In essence, you’ll be developing all of the essential skills you need to become a Kettlebell Training Instructor. Diploma in Sport

If you can’t get enough of sport and/or fitness and have your sights set on becoming a a sports coach, PE teacher or fitness instructor, then this is the course for you. Then this will be on your first step in to a career in the sport, health and fitness industry! The first thing you’ll notice about this course is that it’s about both practical and theoretical learning – you’ll be spending a lot of time in our on-campus sports hall, a fully equipped gym and 3G pitch. You’ll be looking at everything: strength & conditioning techniques, sporting skills and the beginnings of tactical awareness, along with teamwork and leadership. In addition, you will be carrying out your very own personal fitness plan as you progress through the course. In essence, you’ll be developing all of the essential skills you need to start your journey towards a career in sport, health and fitness. Cornwall College has a selection of college sports teams, which regularly train and compete at a participatory and competitive level. A large selection of enrichment activities are also available, including table tennis, badminton, recreational football, basketball and circuit training. We have excellent links with local employers and sports clubs, providing amazing work experience and volunteering opportunities. Many of our students have gone on to employment further afield or abroad. As a Level 2 course, this diploma is all about introducing you to everything from the theory behind how the body works, to the practical steps needed to plan and coach your very own sport/fitness session.
