Bricklaying Skills Bootcamp

The Level 2 Bricklaying Skills bootcamp will equip learners with the theoretical and practical knowledge in bricklaying and masonry. This Bootcamp is being delivered in partnership with Kier and their partners, who are providing Bootcamp learners with the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience at their new site in Newquay.

Bootcamps are open to anyone 19 or over, who are self-employed, employed or unemployed. For those currently not in employed, you will be offered a guaranteed interview with an employer upon successful completion of the bootcamp.

What you will learn

The Bricklaying Skills Bootcamp will cover an introduction to the importance of site safety within construction trades, principles of mixtures, ratios and associated calculations within trowel and brick trades skills, safe use of hand and power tools, and safe use of mixes and materials, as well as practical skills in bricklaying trades and masonry.

The Bootcamp will also provide learners with the opportunity to gain their CSCS Card and Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment which covers the following:

• Know the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work
• Know the principles of risk assessment and method statements
• Know the importance of safe handing in the workplace
• Know the importance of working safely at height in the workplace
• Know risks to health within a construction environment
• Know the importance of working around plant and equipment safely

Following successful completion of the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, learners will be able to gain hands-on and practical experience onsite with Kier through a work experience opportunity, and at the end of the Bootcamp learners will also be offered a guaranteed interview with Kier or one of their partners.

Entry requirements

Assessment

The Bootcamp includes the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, as well as the CSCS Card Test in order to gain the CSCS Green Card. This is not mandatory, but learners will not be able to gain any onsite work experience without successfully completing these assessments due to Health and Safety requirements.
