This course is aimed at beginners who will learn the basic use of a digital camera. With simple techniques to improve portraits, landscapes, travel photography, special occasions, and competition entries.

You will learn what the controls on your camera are for, and how settings can be used to give effects that can enhance your images. This will include an understanding of exposure and what settings combine to give the right results; what types of image file and colour settings are the best for your camera; basic control of natural, artificial and flash lighting and basic use of photo software; tips for improving the composition of landscapes, portraits, nature and close-up (macro) images.

Students are encouraged each week to try out what they have learnt and the photographs are viewed by the group the following week.

You will need your own digital camera for this course and if you already have one a tripod may also be useful.

This course runs on an evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm for 8 or 7 weeks.

If you want to work in television, film, journalism, advertising, radio, or animation then our award-winning media department can help you achieve a bright career. If you are interested in a career in photography and have your sights set on a future in the creative industries then look no further as this is the course for you. The course is constructed with practical projects and hands on learning – you’ll be spending a lot of time taking photographs in and out of college. This course is delivered at both Cornwall College Camborne and Cornwall College St Austell. You will work on projects that are written to allow you to develop skills in both digital and analogue processes across a range of photographic applications. By the end of the course you will have a diverse portfolio to take to employers, universities or to show clients. At the end of each year of study you will be given the chance to choose your own specialism and create a completely individual product based on the strengths and skills you have developed. What will you create? The choice is yours! You will go on trips to various locations and visit photographer’s studios. These are a great opportunity to meet and question current industry professionals. You will also have the opportunity to go on the annual London trip that includes accommodation at a 3* hotel, seeing the work of professional photographers exhibited at National Portrait Gallery and Photographers Gallery, Visiting V&A museum being in a live TV studio audience, meeting and working with professional photographers, 3D IMAX screening, a West End show, a ride on the London Eye, Street Photography in the capital and so much more. Crazy Patchwork Panel – Sewing Workshop

Learn two different crazy patchwork techniques to produce decorative panels which can then be used as part of a product, e.g. placemat, cushion, bag, etc. This is an ideal workshop for beginners through to experienced sewers, so come along and be creative! For this workshop you will need your own sewing machine (in good working order) and manual and your own sewing kit including scissors, pins, needles, tape measure. You will also need to bring your own fabric, thread etc and you will be informed of the amounts nearer the start date This is a FREE* workshop - book now so you don't miss out. *This workshop will be free for students who will be 19+ as of 31.08.21 and have not attended the workshop before.
