Come and join our experts here at Cornwall Colleges Hairdressing and Beauty department where they will show how to apply basic nail art.

During the two 3 hour session you will work on techniques that will enable you to prepare truly beautiful nails.

This is the perfect introductory course that could lead you on to other courses within Cornwall College Hairdressing and Beauty.

This course is designed for anyone learning the different nail art application techniques such as stamping, free hand, marbling and glitter.

I was very nervous and excited to start college. I was living in Looe and nobody that I knew from my school was going to do the course that I was going to do, so yeah, I had first day jitters, but it was great. I made friends really quickly and like everyone says it goes really fast, so enjoy it. I loved my hairdressing course and getting really hands on. Before I started college I spent the summer in a salon, just as an assistant, soaking everything up and watching lots. I also practiced things on my friends and family, even if it was just blow drying. I have very curly hair so I really enjoyed trying new things out on my own hair too. There are so many options with hairdressing, it’s really limitless.

I now have my own salon in South London called Bleach. I also do a lot of freelance work, which I have been doing for about 10 years now working in TV, music videos, touring with musicians and artists on their tours, lots of live TV and photo shoots and things like that. I have also been able to travel, all things I never even imagined I would be able to do, so your possibilities are endless.

If the freelance side of things is what you would like to get into be very well rounded. I think it’s played well for me that I can do everything from cutting, colouring and extensions down to perming and shampoo and sets. When I was at college I was like; “oh another perm!”, but all of those things really shape everything that you end up being able to do. They give you so many skills that you might think at the time you’re not going to need but you really will want them! Practice as much as possible and play around, your friends will get tired of having their hair done.

Barbering Diploma

Level 3 • Full-time • Cornwall College St Austell


If you are already qualified to a level 2 standard and you are looking to upgrade your qualification. This course will help you to progress in your career as a barber. Not only will you develop existing skills but you will also learn how to design and create a range of facial hair shapes and provide shaving services. You will be expected to attend College for two/three days a week and will be required to work to high professional standards. You will train in one of our industry standard salons, work in a realistic environment and use the latest equipment, machinery and products within the industry. When you are confident enough and have practiced the techniques to a level 3 standard, you will be able to provide services to paying customers. Alongside the training, you will be required to complete work related experience within the industry to enrich your programme of study and gain employability skills. You are also required to complete course work and research in your own time towards completion of this qualification.
