The Level 3 Award in Indian Head Massage is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in how to provide the relaxing and stress relieving treatment of head massage.

This course will provide you with all the underpinning knowledge for the practical application of Indian Head Massage on a variety of clients and you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety, client care and communication.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in providing head massage treatments to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to provide your own services for clients

  What You Will Learn

You will learn the practical skills required to enable you to provide relaxing and stress relieving Indian Head Massage treatments. You will develop practical and theoretical skills learning a variety of Indian influenced techniques. This is an excellent skill to gain as the client can have this treatment fully dressed – making it a very versatile treatment that can be performed anywhere.

  Entry Requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course. However, a good standard of English and the ability and motivation to self-study to a high standard. As with all therapy professions, you will need to create the right impression with your clients and must therefore be professional, courteous and discreet. Excellent communication skills are essential. This is an intensive, knowledge-based course and we do look for enthusiasm and motivation to succeed on the course.

  Assessment

Theory is delivered and in house exams are set, however emphasis is placed on practical learning. Paying clients are to be used for practical assessment.

Alongside the theory you will produce a portfolio of your work which will be verified and should include assessment books, projects, and theoretical work

  Progression

On completion of this qualification you may choose to undertake further study courses at Cornwall College. Qualifications you could progress to include:

•Reflexology Diploma Level 3

•Beauty Therapy Diploma Level 3

I was very nervous and excited to start college. I was living in Looe and nobody that I knew from my school was going to do the course that I was going to do, so yeah, I had first day feels, but it was great. I made friends really quickly and like everyone says it goes really fast, so enjoy it. I loved my hairdressing course and getting really hands on. Before I started college I spent the summer in a salon, just as an assistant, soaking everything up and watching lots. I also practiced things on my friends and family, even if it was just blow drying. I have very curly hair so I really enjoyed trying new things out on my own hair too. There are so many options with hairdressing, it’s really limitless.

I now have my own salon in South London called Bleach. I also do a lot of freelance work, which I have been doing for about 10 years now working in TV, music videos, touring with musicians and artists on their tours, lots of live TV and photo shoots and things like that. I have also been able to travel, all things I never even imagined I would be able to do, so your possibilities are endless.

If the freelance side of things is what you would like to get into be very well rounded. I think it’s played well for me that I can do everything from cutting, colouring and extensions down to perming and shampoo and sets. When I was at college I was like; “oh another perm!”, but all of those things really shape everything that you end up being able to do. They give you so many skills that you might think at the time you’re not going to need but you really will want them! Practice as much as possible and play around, your friends will get tired of having their hair done.

You will train in one of our industry standard salons, work in a realistic environment and use the latest equipment, machinery and products within the industry. When you are confident enough and have practiced the techniques to a level 3 standard, you will be able to provide services to paying customers. Alongside the training, you will be required to complete work related experience within the industry to enrich your programme of study and gain employability skills. You are also required to complete course work and research in your own time towards completion of this qualification.

Family Hairdressing: Inverted Look

No Qualification • Part-time • Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy department


This college certificated course is open to anyone with an interest in cutting hair for the family. Through interactive demonstration and hands on practical learning this course provides the foundation to those that want to gain a basic understanding of the principals of 5 different types of cutting styles for your family. Following this course you may be able to progress on to the Hairdressing Diploma Level 2 and then onto the Hairdressing Diploma Level 3. Please note: There will be a £25.00 fee to cover the cost of materials (Training Head). All of our Family Hairdressing courses can be offered separately or as the whole package of 5. However the cost of the materials will be the same. One training head is needed for one course but can be used for all.
