If you’ve always had passion for passing on your knowledge and skills to others, and have your sights set on becoming a teacher or trainer, then this is the course for you and could be your first step to a career teaching in Further Education. This is a part time course, so you can fit it around other commitments and the groups consist of other like-minded adults, wanting to see if teaching could be their next step. As an introductory programme, you will learn about the roles and responsibilities of teachers, how to teach in an inclusive way and you will plan and deliver a short teaching session, on a topic of your choice to the rest of the class. You will be involved in a mixture of practical activities and group tasks as well as covering some background theory about teaching and learning. Best of all, as adults you will learn from each other and share experiences. Even if you haven’t been in a classroom for a long time, you’ll find a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with tutors committed to helping you enjoy and succeed during your time with us. Assessing Competence In The Work Environment City And Guilds Award

Level 3 • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne

This course is ideal for you if you assess the achievement of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning and discussion, use of others (e.g. witnesses), learner statements and recognition of prior learning (RPL). You can expect to continue to work with the Course Tutor through group/one-to-one support at subsequent sessions. Within the Assessment Centre, you will work closely with at least two learners, through components of their qualification. You will meet with your Course Tutor/Assessor regularly and build a portfolio of evidence. You will also be required to work/liaise with other assessors and internal quality assurance staff at your Assessment Centre. This course is completed over 12 months, with a two day induction and up to 5 workshop sessions.

Post Graduate Certificate in Education (inc DET)

Level 7 • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne

The PGCE is designed for graduates who would like to become a qualified teacher in the Further Education sector. The PGCE incorporates the Diploma in Education and Training (DET). This qualification will allow you to meet the initial training requirements for membership of the Society for Education and Training and will underpin an application for Qualified Teacher of Learning and Skills (QTLS) status A teaching placement is an essential requirement of this course. During the course this placement will inform taught sessions and enable you to contextualise and apply key principles of learning.
