Our St Austell campus has a renowned reputation for its performing arts courses which enable students to progress to some of the most prestigious performing arts schools and conservatoires in the country. Our facilities are amazing and include The Keay Theatre, professional dance studios, and rehearsal and performance spaces.

On our Level 3 Acting Diploma you will develop fundamental performance skills through a range of projects over your two years of study including Contemporary Theatre, Classical Theatre, Film & TV Acting, Storytelling Theatre, Site Specific Performance, Musical Theatre, Interactive Dining Performances, Physical Theatre and our annual Horror Walk.

You will be given the opportunity to express your creativity and devise performances with the rest of your group, by forming a theatre company that replicates the industry, with the opportunity to take on performance and production roles. You can expect to collaborate on exciting projects with the Dance, Music and Media departments as well as performing in front of live audiences in our Keay theatre and discover the cultural heritage of performing arts.

If you wish to pursue a career in the performing arts industry then we can offer you a specialist Level 3 course which is equivalent to 3 A-levels.?Or you might find our Level 2 Musical Theatre course more suitable if your GCSE results are not what you quite expected, following this course you will have the option to progress to one of our full time Level 3 Diplomas in Acting and Dance which span across two years of study.

If you want to become an actor and would love to work in TV, theatre or film. If you want to take part in trips to see theatre near and far and take part in workshops with professionals in the local industry, then this is the course for you!

  What You Will Learn

You will take part in daily technique classes in voice, improvisation and physical theatre and develop further fundamental skills through project work such as devising, characterisation, line learning, script work, fitness, rehearsal processes and etiquette, production scheduling, stage craft, responding to direction, giving and receiving feedback and explore a range of theatre practitioners and their stylistic qualities and techniques in practice. You will also have access to optional dance, singing and music lessons too.

  Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4, including English or Maths. Successful selection for the course is based upon interview and audition where you will be asked to perform a monologue.

  Work Experience

As part of the course you will partake in work experience to prepare you to progress into the performing arts industry. In your first year of study you will complete around 2 weeks of work experience. In your second year you will undergo an industry placement which will be 1 day a week as well as 3 weeks at the end of the year. Exciting examples of where you could go include theatre companies, holiday parks, theatre’s and schools etc.

  Assessment

You will be assessed on the Acting course through project and technique work and a mixture of practical and theory work which is made up of reflective writing, vlogs, creative websites and the creation of portfolios. Our courses awarding body is UAL who are arts focused, there will be no exams on this course. Examples of projects in which you will assessed include Horror Walk, Classical Theatre, Contemporary Theatre, Film & TV Acting etc.

  Progression

Continue to higher education study at university or conservatoire training. Learners have gone on to study at University of Exeter, Bristol Old Vid Theatre School, Drama Centre London, Bath Spa University, Falmouth University, Central School of Speech and Drama, Chichester University and more.
