Animal Care Certificate
Level 2 • Full-time • Duchy College Rosewarne, Duchy College Stoke Climsland
This Level 2 Animal Care course is available both Duchy college campuses, which are each home to a large variety of animals. The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care is about preparing you for any career with animals. Whether going into further study, wanting to become a pet shop assistant, a zoo keeper or work in rescue centres, this course sets you up for a career in the animal industry. Caring for animals can be an extremely fulfilling and rewarding career. From working in kennels and catteries to pet shops, rescue centres or sanctuaries, there is a wide range of careers available on successful completion of your course. With access to animal collections on campus you will gain the practical training you need to pursue a career in this exciting industry. This is a one year course than runs from September to July. It is run over 4 days at college and 1 day at a work experience placement to gain at all important experience. This course uses a balance of theory and practice to help you develop the skills and knowhow to confidently work with animals’ great and small. You will cover a broad range of topics that cater for all animals from small to large mammals, to birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians. You will learn how to maintain animal health and welfare, how to care for feeding and accommodation routines. You will explore animal behaviour and correct handling techniques, along with ensuring Health & Safety is paramount in the Animal and Land based industries. You will learn about how to care for exotics animals and how animals’ biological systems work. You will also get to choose between either Introduction to Caring for Horses or Livestock. You will trial both units before deciding which you would like to develop further. You will study a combination of theory and practical work, and can expect to spend time both at college and in a work experience placement of your choice. You will also have the opportunity to go on field trips to local zoos, wildlife parks and animal sanctuaries. You will need to purchase PPE to wear during your practical sessions. BA (Hons) International Business Management (With Professional Golf)**

As business becomes increasingly global, the need for effective management within organisations becomes paramount and the opportunities for graduates expands. You will study the management of international business, and how the key theoretical approaches can be used in practice. You will get the opportunity to develop and apply business and management skills both within and outside of the formal programme. Business will not be your only interest, you will have a passion for the game of golf and want to develop your game further. Our BA (Hons) International Business Management programme is sympathetically timetabled so that you can fully engage with our golf performance development programme, including competing in professional events, and our 10-12 weeks training in Southern Europe. The programme is intensive, with the primary delivery taking place over 22 weeks from September to April. This intensive delivery model, with activity seven days a week, ensures that the academic and golf performance development delivery is completed ahead of Easter when the UK golf season starts. During the summer, students work either in positions within industry or practising, planning and managing their golf development. The BA (Hons) International Business Management (with Professional Golf) aims to: Produce students who are knowledgeable, analytical, forward thinking and highly employable in an international business environment. Allow students to develop their critical thinking and understanding of the factors and issues involved in managing international businesses. Develop key transferable skills and autonomy of learning. Ensure currency of delivery throughout the programme. Provide opportunity for students to practice and develop business and management skills within and outside of the formal programme. *Subject to approval by Plymouth Marjon University Additional costs/fee information Additional programme costs of £9500.00 to cover the costs of all accommodation, unlimited golf, use of all resort facilities, weekly internal competitive golf events, coaching and performance management, liaison with your existing coach when required, opportunity to play in the Portugal Pro Golf Tour events, airport transfers in Portugal. Animal Management Diploma

Our Level 3 Animal Management Diploma at Duchy College is an exciting stepping stone on your way to a rewarding career working with animals. This course can be studied as a one year Advanced Diploma in Animal Management Diploma or as a two year Extended Advanced Diploma in Animal Management, and we will work with you to decide which option will be the best choice for you. Our state of the art animal management centres at Duchy College Rosewarne and Duchy College Stoke Climsland provide dedicated access to a huge range of animal species such as small mammals, exotics, birds, aquatics, and farm animals. Learners will also have the opportunity to visit and access real industry environments including Dartmoor Zoological Park. Caring for animals can be an extremely fulfilling and rewarding career; from working in kennels and catteries to wildlife rescue, there are a wide range of careers available upon successful completion of the course. Completing this course will allow you to start your career in the animal care industry or prepare you for University. If you find an area of study you love whilst completing the course you can choose to go on to further study at University and qualify as an animal nutritionist, behaviourist or conservationist. We offer a Zoo Animal Management pathway at Level 3, which is perfect if you would like a career caring for animals in a zoo-based setting. We work in partnership with Dartmoor Zoological Park to ensure you gain the practical, real-life experience that employers look for.
HNC/ HND Garden & Landscape Design
Level 4 • Full-time • Eden Project
Based in specialist facilities at Cornwall’s Eden Project this programme is designed for those with an emerging passion for garden and landscape design. It will enable you to pursue a career within this creative industry and will also appeal to those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of garden and landscape design for more holistic reasons. The programme integrates the creativity of art and design with a core understanding of horticulture, earth sciences and landscape technology. We recognise the world of garden and landscape design is diverse so you will work together with a specialist teaching team to reflect the need for graduates to have a wide range of skills. This team includes award-winning garden designers, artists, landscape architects, design historians and horticulturalists all of which combine private practice alongside their teaching commitments and have significant industry experience. Students under the tutelage of the current team have won numerous awards including the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Young Designer of the Year, three times in the last five years, and the Society of Garden Designers (SGD) Student Designer of the Year Award, three times in the past six years, latest awarded to recent HND graduate Jo Midwinter in 2015. Through real or ‘live’ projects during the course you will learn how to create stimulating and thought-provoking spaces in a variety of locations – from private gardens to public landscapes – whilst at the same time developing your own unique design identity and philosophy. Clients students have worked with recently include Truro Cathedral, The Pengersick Castle Trust, The Eden Project, The Leonard Cheshire Disability Trust and the Potager Garden. In the second year, particular emphasis is placed upon professional practice, design communication and user-focused design. Alongside subject specialists you will study how to progress design concepts and ideas related to contemporary user group themes such as design for the elderly, health and well-being, therapy and social inclusion.
