Counselling Taster Sessions

Our new Counselling Taster days provides an insight into the field of counselling, and gives you the opportunity to learn about the field from qualified counsellors. The taster days, which will be run for a whole day where can learn about the professional life of a counsellor, counselling skills and what kind of training Cornwall College has to offer in this field. The progression route will be explained in detail from the start of a counselling training at an introductory Level 2 Counselling Skills course (delivered in person during the day, or the evening or online at Camborne and St Austell campuses) all the way through to our Higher Education courses. Along the way, you can study a BACP Gold Standard Level 5 Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and Therapy, which leads to a professional qualification. You could also train as a Counselling supervisor on our BA Counselling Studies course. Basic Signing

Learn some basic signing with our communication specialist, Nicky Varney. Nicky uses sign in her daily support of learners, as a Higher Learning Support Practitioner, and is qualified to BSL Level 2. Nicky also uses other methods of communication in her work, such as Braille and Widget. This course will be delivered at Cornwall College St Austell campus, and will be offered on two other occasions this academic year, both in college, for those that prefer in person training, and once online to support others unable to travel.

Promoting Wellbeing

This is particularly important as we cope with the current circumstances and the stress of daily life. Dyslexia Awareness for Parents

This course will cover a variety of areas relating to dyslexia – including the misconceptions of dyslexia, defining dyslexia and the challenges faced by a dyslexic learner. Also, the characteristics of dyslexia and the effect of dyslexia on learning to read and write. You will be given advice on what to do if you suspect you, or someone else, has dyslexia – who you can contact, screening tests and diagnostic assessments. Ideas to support a person with dyslexia focusing on activities and strategies that may help them will also be covered.
