Improvers Silversmithing

This course is designed for individuals who feel confident using basic jewellery techniques, such as those taught during the beginner course, e.g. soldering, piecing, filing etc (please see Silver Jewellery Beginners course description). Materials are provided for the first project and your tutor will advise you of where you can buy any further materials you need. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron to protect your clothes and footwear should not be open toed. Please bring a note pad and pen.

Alison is Etsy Team Captain for Cornwall, with a small group, she is supporting over 850 Etsy sellers with networking Facebook group, Etsy Makers Cornwall. As the Team Captain Alison has represented her team at several Etsy Team Captains’ Summits in UK and Italy and organises Etsy Made Local Christmas events in Cornwall. A common problem reported amongst Etsy sellers is that they set up an Etsy shop without much planning and research, and are surprised and disappointed when they don't make any sales. Via this online course you can use this workshop to critique your own shops and make sure that you have optimised your shop to its best potential by following the comprehensive sessions/ The sessions will be delivered via Microsoft Teams.

Beginners Silversmithing

This is a 6-week course where you will learn the basics of jewellery making in consecutive weekly classes. The course is designed for those who are completely new to jewellery making or those who wish to refresh on the basics. You will learn about the tools required for jewellery making as well as being shown how to use them in a safe and proper manner. We will cover all the basic techniques through tutor lead demonstrations including saw piercing, texturing, soldering, doming and finishing. Bring along a sketchbook or something for taking notes and making rough designs, don’t be afraid to bring along some project ideas too! Cost for the workshop consumables and your first project will be £25, payable in advance, if further materials are required your tutor will advise on best suppliers you to purchase.

Exploring Colours and Textures - Basic painting course

Working with trained Illustrator and Graphic Designer, Karen McEndoo, this is a beginner’s course learning how to use water based paints (Acrylics), mixing and using colours, making different textures and learning to use paint freely. Items to bring with you: Three or four paint brushes of different sizes the widest being approximately 3cm flat brush Tubes of Acrylic paint to include any type of Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Brown, White and a Paynes Gray (we try not to use Black) A couple of old rags (Cut up old T shirts are perfect) Three or four canvas boards about 20 x 30cm (bigger or smaller as you prefer) A pencil and eraser For all sessions please wear old comfortable clothing or bring an apron.

Look, See, Draw – Basic Drawing Course

Working with trained Illustrator and Graphic Designer, Karen McEndoo, this is a beginner’s course where you will learn how to both look and accurately see a subject/item and then create a drawing. Learning to draw is as much about learning to really see the object before you before putting pencil to paper. Each week we shall look at a different item or still life that I shall set up in the middle of the table. The most important thing is to relax and enjoy your time in the classroom.
