HNC Healthcare Practice

For 2017 start

Cornwall College Camborne LEVEL: 4 Social Care & Health

This exciting programme is ideal if you already work in the healthcare sector in a health or social care role at NHS Band 3 or equivalent and want to extend your knowledge, skills and potential. It is also suitable if you are new to working in care and have completed recent academic study and/or relevant experience in a care setting.

The programme is year one of the FdSc Heathcare Practice and provides a grounding in transferable clinical skills and underpins these with current, relevant theory enabling you to continue onto Year 2 of the FdSc Healthcare Practice or to apply onto a Nursing Degree.

This innovative programme gives you the opportunity to work, earn and learn, using flexible modes of education including work-based learning and e-learning. The HNC develops relevant clinical skills, underpinned with theoretical knowledge in order to prepare you for a rapidly evolving service across a variety of care/clinical health settings.

The programme will also help you develop an awareness of the modern landscape of care and learn about the social, cultural, spiritual, legal, political and economic influences impacting care delivery, as well as introduce the concepts of inter-agency and inter-professional working.

You will be introduced to the human lifespan, both physical and psychological, and gain an understanding of the concepts of health and ill health. You will also consider the patient journey in depth and reflect on a range of patient experiences of health, illness and care.
Throughout the programme, practice skills and specialist modules introduce you to the specific work-based skills and competencies you will be required to achieve. These modules run across the year and are evidenced through the completion of workbooks and portfolios. Employer partners are directly involved in teaching and assessing these skills.
