Future music industry professionals will require a range of essential creative and personal skills to be successful. Relentless ambition, drive, strong communication skills, entrepreneurial vision coupled with raw talent, makes the developing music professional a formidable prospect. This programme is taught at dBs Music’s premier training centre at Cornwall College Camborne.

As with all dBs Music programmes we help you identify and develop these essential ingredients, so that you can achieve your goals. So if you’re looking to become a performing musician who’s not only looking to write and produce music, but also to push the boundaries of live performance, then this is the programme for you.

During this programme you will develop your essential skills as a musician and composer through individual practice programmes, group performing, masterclasses and tutorials. You will also reflect on your current abilities, develop critical awareness of your skills gaps and create a career plan to launch into the music industry.
Alongside the technical and creative work you will be developing your personal and business skills which include, event management, online business, budgeting and finance management, career strategy, project management, PR and marketing.

Additional Information

Some of the units covered include:

Band Rehearsal and Performance – This unit enables learners to develop, use and refine the skills required to rehearse and perform in a musical ensemble or band.
Songwriting Techniques and Skills – This unit enables learners to develop and use the specialised techniques of a songwriter and to foster the skills needed to bring songs to performance.
Music Composition Techniques – This unit enables learners to use different composition techniques to produce coherent musical compositions.
Studio Recording and Engineering – This unit enables learners to develop theoretical and practical knowledge of studio recording, including factors affecting audio quality, equipment and effective planning of recording sessions.
Computer Music Composition and Production – This unit enables learners to use the music composition, production and audio features made available by modern computers.
Improvisation in Music – This unit enables learners to improvise musically by skills and techniques required in a systematic and sustainable way.
Music in Context – This unit enables learners  to examine the contexts within which high and popular musical culture has evolved and continues to develop.

dBs Cornwall has state-of-the-art sound studios, practice spaces, rehearsal rooms, Mac suites, and production pods which are fully equipped with professional hardware and software, you will have access to Logic Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Sibelius to name a few, which are constantly updated.

dBs Cornwall has the largest Live Room in the South West, with 4 control rooms simultaneously patched in.

The best way to get a feel for our facilities is to come in and take a look around.

You will visit local and national gigs and give your own performances in a range of local venues.

We also have a well-established programme of visiting guest lecturers and speakers who deliver industry based workshops and talks.

The application process for full-time and part-time degree level courses with The Cornwall College Group starting in September 2017 is still open and we are taking applications.  Full-time applicants should apply via UCAS and part-time applicants directly via the College website.

Entry Requirements

48 UCAS points from AS and A-Levels (at least 32 points must be at A2-level) or relevant level 3 qualification, ie BTEC National Diploma / BTEC Extended Diploma - PPP Grades required. Access to HE Diplomas - 45 credits at level 3. Plus GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics: alternatives at Level 2 may be considered. Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply. A show reel or portfolio of work will also be required at interview.
