FdSc Renewable Energy Technologies

For 2018 start - Available with a Science Gateway qualification

Cornwall College Eden Project LEVEL: 5 Marine & Natural Environment

This innovative programme, based at the iconic Eden Project, is designed to enable you to enter the renewable energy field and make a difference. You will learn how low carbon technologies work, where they can be implemented and how to recognise and overcome the challenges that will confront you.

This programme is ideal for anyone who has a passion for the renewable energy industry and is either completing relevant Level 3 courses, or who is currently working in the industry and wants to progress further.

During the programme you will build your theoretical understanding of how renewable energy technologies work by means of lectures, supported by online materials and quizzes. However, real understanding and confidence in your ability is developed by getting you to solve real life problems, often in teams, just as you would in the workplace. These problems will require that you deploy a range of IT skills, such as CAD and GIS, together with open source presentational and analytical software.
In addition, you will learn how to make projects actually happen. This means knowing how projects might be funded, how communities might be engaged and how the planning system works. The problems that you will work on will develop expertise in all these areas. The intention is that this experience, together with the work placement and follow-up research project, will enable you to move smoothly into relevant employment, or progress further to Honours degree level.
