This Level 2 apprenticeship is great for those who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognized qualification in craft masonry. You must enjoy working in the outdoors, be physically fit and have good practical and hand skills.
Bricklayers may work on a range of projects and sites from housing new-builds to alterations, extensions and large commercial developments. As well as building from scratch, you can also work on refurbishing and restoration projects.
If you choose the apprenticeship route you will be able to work, earn and learn from the start. Gaining invaluable real world experience, while gaining theoretical and advanced skills usually by attending college one day per week. If you are not ready to start working straight away, you may want to spend a year on a full-time Level 1 qualification first to build your confidence and skills, while finding an employer prepared to take you on for an apprenticeship.

GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 or above.
By attending college one or two days per week, you will learn
• Build cavity walling
• Form masonry structures
• Plaster and render surfaces
• Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures
• Maintain slate and roof tiling
• Build solid walling masonry structures.
*The apprenticeship at Saltash offers the standard bricklaying pathway without the additional roofing and finishing elements.
To attend lectures on campus 1-2 days per week for 2 years.
Putting together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.
A Level 3 apprenticeship or possibly a full-time Level 3 diploma to increase your technical skills and career potential. You can also go into full-time employment with this qualification in a junior role.
