Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

You must enjoy working with children and young adults, be confident in the classroom environment and have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills.

During this apprenticeship, you will attend classes at one of our campuses, one day per week, for 12 months.

The main areas of teaching in class include promoting positive behaviour, supporting learning assessment and activities, understanding development and safeguarding of children and young people.

You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the following qualification:

  • Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

With a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, you could work in a variety of job roles within the education sector, eg. teaching assistant, learning support assistants, special needs, behaviour support coordinators, welfare support, cover supervisors, learning guide/coach or exam invigilation assistant.

In the future, you may be interested in studying further and enrol in an FdA Children and Young Peoples Workforce followed by a CertEd/PGCE, BSc (Hons) Combined Social Science or a BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care. Thereafter, you may find yourself working as a teacher, early years practitioner, early years manager, further education lecturer, adult education tutor, care worker, volunteer, social care worker or SEN teacher.

PROFILE

Dani Hamilton Team Lead - Education Mid and West Cornwall

Dani is an experienced teacher, assessor and early years practitioner. She has a particular interest in the role of the nursery nurse in baby care and has worked within private day care. Dani joined the College as a work-based assessor and has, through ongoing professional development, continued into higher education to gain her Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Dani has in recent years supported the team at Cornwall College Camborne, where training for the children's workforce, in particular early years, has been established for almost 30 years. The team has developed a fully equipped play and learning space in our Edu-Care centre supporting the needs of practitioners who study towards, or will work in a variety of careers. In her spare time Dani regularly ice skates and is an ex Holiday on Ice skater!
