You have an interest in dog grooming and want to eventually progress into a career within this area.
To be 19 years old or above.
It would be advantageous to be working within the dog grooming industry (as a volunteer or in paid employment) but this isn't essential.
You will need to have a good level of literacy to enable you to complete the assignment work.
You will have the opportunity to spend time working within the Dog Grooming Units on our campuses. Here you can practice your skills in bathing and preparing a range of dogs with different coat types for the grooming process and you will also learn some basic trimming techniques. You will learn the underpinning theory, and assessment is via the completion of written assignments and practical assessments.
The course covers the following units:
Unit 1: Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
Unit 2: Bathe and clean dogs
Unit 3: Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals
Unit 4: Control and restrain animals
Unit 5: Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling

This is a part-time course, running 1 day per week (Tuesdays) over 30 weeks at Duchy Stoke Climsland and Bicton College. You can also study this course at Duchy Rosewarne for 6 months (2 days per week).
Having the opportunity to spend time working within the newly designed, well-equipped Dog Grooming Unit.
The Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants will give you the knowledge and skills to work as a grooming assistant within the grooming industry.
If you wish to work as a professional dog groomer, you would need to progress onto the nationally-recognised Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. This would be in addition to a substantial amount of practical experience in the industry to enable you to pass the practical assessments. The Level 3 Diploma gives you tuition and experience in hand-stripping and also styling and trimming of a whole range of dog breeds and, again, it is strongly recommended that time is spent in industry to further practise and develop the skills for dog grooming.
